Read the following article and answer the following questions:

1 Which public health core function is principally addressed by the author? Give one or two other examples of how this core function is used in public health.
2 Summarize the main points of each of the five essential characteristics of the article. Indicate whether you agree or disagree with the author’s position and why.

The core function mainly addressed by the author is public health. The author provides a full understanding of various functions of law in safeguarding public’s health laws by creating conditions to help individuals lead healthier and safe lives. The countries’ public health duty includes taking measures and steps to provide the necessary services and interventions required to maintain the health of the public. For example, public health laws tries to demand particular behaviors from people to protect a society such as restricting smoking in public areas, requiring that all children be immunized according to the countries’ immunization program to prevent all children from preventable diseases such as measles (Gostin, 2008).
