I work in a growing private plastic surgery office- currently the only non-surgical injectables provider- as we grow, the challenges we face is a disconnect between clinical and non-clinical staff regarding patient education. Patients must receive consistent information regarding our procedures. in order to make well-informed decisions based on the immediate and long-term risks associated with their choices. My change would be monthly staff meetings incorporating the presentation (PowerPoint/video presentation) of EBP and measurable results- recording the number of adverse events and categorizing them and through patient satisfaction scores, which could be obtained through incorporating patient satisfaction surveys. The challenges faced would be the staff’s unwillingness to attend meetings and the challenge of the education and information they currently have. I would need to ensure that they understand the need for EBP, not just patient-favorable results. There is no uniform law in place or practice to govern practice nationwide, and newer providers are often unaware of their scope.
