Post a brief description of your clinical issue of interest. This clinical issue will remain the same for the entire course and will be the basis for the development of your PICOT question. Then, post your PICO(T) question, the search terms used, and the names of at least two databases used for your PICO(T) question. Describe your search results in terms of the number of articles returned on original research and how this changed as you added search terms using your Boolean operators. Finally, explain strategies you might make to increase the rigor and effectiveness of a database search on your PICO(T) question. Be specific and provide examples.

Several clinical issues are reported in the nursing practice. Problems experienced in the nursing practice compromise safety and quality of patient care, resulting in adverse health outcomes. For this reason, healthcare organizations should adopt evidence-based interventions to resolve various clinical issues (Nilsen et al., 2020). The selected clinical problem of interest is burnout among nurses working in the emergency department. This clinical issue has been preferred following the dramatic increase in burnout among nurses, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic (Nishimura et al., 2021). This trend is associated with a significant increase in demand for healthcare services, raising nurses’ workload and working hours.

A clinical problem is formatted as a PICOT question to actualize, facilitating evidence collection, which is transformed into evidence-based practice (Melnyk, 2019). Hence, formatting the clinical issue of interest into a PICOT question will support evidence collection via a literature search. Based on the selected clinical problem, the proposed PICOT question states; “Among nurses working in the emergency department (P), does multi-dimensional stress management approach, including improving nurse-to-patient ratios, availing mental health program, and providing managerial support (I) compared to intervention (C) reduce stress among nurses (O) within 90 days (T)?”

The search terms used during the literature search include nurse burnout, stress management approaches, stress reduction, nurse-to-patient ratios, mental health programs, and managerial support. Search for the proposed PICOT question was conducted in various databases, including CINAHL, Embase, the Cochrane Library, and PubMed. These databases were preferred since they are highly credible evidence in different nursing topics. Five hundred and thirty-seven (537) articles were returned during the original research. When adding search terms using Boolean operators, the number of articles returned reduced every search. I might adopt strategies to enhance the rigor and effectiveness of a database search on the proposed PICOT question that involves using alternative terms. For example, I can use words such as burnout syndrome, fatigue, critical care unit, work-related distress, and nurse practitioners.
