The Evidence-Based Intervention Essay

The study selected for this discussion is Effects of an Outpatient Diabetes Self-Management Education on Patients with Type 2 Diabetes in China. The study is a randomized control trial by Zheng et al. (2019). This discussion presents the research evidence appraisal, the outcomes measured by the research team, and the steps of implementing the intervention in a practice setting.

To determine the effects of an outpatient diabetes self-management education program, two regular and health education programs were provided. The observable measures were the diabetes self-care activities measured and recorded before and after the intervention.	Despite mentioning the effects of diabetes self-management interventions, the article does not include the effectiveness of these effects in improving patient outcomes. The use of only two education sessions may have provided limited evidence.	Zheng et al. (2019 ) appraised at Level 1 evidence with grade A quality. The study was unbiased, and the risk of systematic errors was minimal. The sample size is sufficient for the study design.

 

 

The outcomes specific to the intervention measured by the research team include an improvement in the diabetes self-care activities in the intervention group after the intervention. Thus, the study showed that diabetes self-management education program improves the level of self-reported self-management in type 2 diabetes patients.

The diabetes self-management education intervention can be implemented in a practice setting to improve patient outcomes and quality of life for diabetes patients. The steps I would take to implement this intervention in a practice setting are planning the intervention implementation, developing specific objectives and activities, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the intervention, and finally, feedback incorporation.
