According to the global health Statistics report, there are over 29 million nurses and midwives globally, 3.9 million of whom work in the United States. Although nurses make up the majority of healthcare workers, it is predicted that between 2020 and 2030, there will be a demand for more than 275,000 extra nurses (Haddad et al., 2022). This essay will identify the change management theory most appropriate for addressing change projects on nurses’ shortage and discuss the principles related to this theory.

Lewin’s change management theory is the most appropriate for this problem. Kurt Lewin developed this theory which was first introduced in 1951 after he died in 1947. The theory is a three-stage model that proposes that change occurs through unfreezing, changing, and refreezing (Burnes, 2020). Unfreezing involves creating the motivation for change, changing involves implementing the desired change, and refreezing involves solidifying the change and making it the new norm. This theory is relevant to the change project on nurses’ shortage as it suggests that change must be carefully planned and executed to ensure its success.

Lewin’s Change Management Theory has three fundamental principles: unfreezing, changing, and refreezing. These principles are highly relevant to the change project on nurses’ shortage.
