Week 7: Assignment 1: Journal Entry 1
Time LogNote: Add rows as needed. Total: Weeks 1-3 Total Weeks 4-7 Total: Weeks 8-11 Total Practicum Hours Completed for Course
JournalDuring week four to seven of the practicum, I refined the practice problem as low knowledge scores among new graduate nurses on the management of diabetic ulcers. I identified and refined the problem through the help of the organization’s leadership team and diabetes team, who pointed out the knowledge gaps among the new grad nurses that should be addressed in the practicum project. In addition, I identified the change practices that will address the practice problem, including conducting staff education programs on the management of diabetic ulcers. The aim of this change is to ensure new grad nurses have the required knowledge to provide high standards of care. From my research, I found that theoretical and practical training programs are crucial. Nurses should be supported to participate in the programs to increase their engagement in diabetic ulcer management (Kaya & Karaca, 2018). In week five, I identified the sources of evidence to address the practice problem. They include research reports, scientific and academic journals, books, clinical practice guidelines, scientific/nursing organizational websites, monitoring and evaluation data, and e-alerts. I selected these sources because they have a wide range of information, including clinical guidelines, systematic reviews, controlled trials, and quantitative and qualitative research (Lehane et al., 2019). Furthermore, I developed a search strategy that I will use to gather evidence for the practice problem. I developed a comprehensive search strategy to help retrieve peer-reviewed articles related to the practice problem. The search strategy will help to retrieve recent articles, which will ensure that the evidence-based practice solutions to the problem are not outdated. |

Week 6: Evidence Critique and Appraisal
In Module 2, you began to explore sources and gather evidence related to your practice problem. The evidence you have gathered will need to be critiqued and appraised to develop recommendations that will support a proposed practice change.
This week will serve as your opportunity to begin this process of evidence critique and appraisal. You will also review the work completed thus far related to your practice problem in developing recommendations for a proposed practice change, which you will develop throughout the remainder of the course. This work will begin in Week 6 and culminate in recommendations offered in Week 11.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
- Critique and appraise evidence related to practice problems*
*Assigned in Week 6 of Module 3 and submitted in Week 11 of Module 5.
