Health Organization Evaluation

In the recent past, health care organizations have been on the verge of transformation to meet health care safety and quality of service delivery. The complexities in healthcare have been multifaceted, compelling healthcare organizations to plan and implement ways of improving care. Evaluating health care organizations allows the management to realize their current position in the development and the future (Gill& France, 2019). Mayo Clinic is one of the prominent health care institutions in the US with a broad network. The purpose of this paper would be to address the readiness of Mayo Clinic in meeting healthcare needs in the next decade.

Description of the Healthcare Organization

Mayo Clinic is a non-profit academic medical center in the US focusing on integrated education, healthcare, and medical research. The institution employs 4,500 scientists and physicians. Besides, it has 58,400 administrative and allied staff across all its branches in the US (Gill& France, 2019). The institution has three main branches: Rochester in Minnesota, Jacksonville in Florida, and Phoenix in Florida. The institutions train its professional in treating difficult cases through tertiary care and destination medicine.

Overall Readiness of Mayo Clinic

The Clinic is stable financially and has been resilient for the last decade. The ability to offer improved care to patients has allowed it to serve many patients who end up paying for the quality services offered at the institution. The constant increase in quality in health care services has allowed Mayo Clinic to develop a reputable brand in the US (Halamka & Cerrato, 2021). In 2018, the total current assets recorded from the institution were $2.427 million. In 2021, the assets at the Clinic had increased by 15%, implying that the current financial strength at the company is better than how it used to be six years ago. The current migration of the Clinic’s operations from analog to digital signifies that it has effectively financed its internal development. Therefore, the strong financial position makes the Clinic ready to meet the healthcare needs in the next decade.

Mayo Clinic has been increasing its attention in developing new evidence-based nursing practices developed from new knowledge to meet the needs of the patients. The nursing practice developed at the Clinic relies on research and theory in creating questions that researchers need to answer (Halamka & Cerrato, 2021). In answering clinical questions, the researchers at the Clinic discover new knowledge that aligns with the clinical practice improvement. The Clinic has developed its professionals to create a link practice and research as it aids in offering the needed care at the facility. One of the reasons that have been putting Mayo as the Clinic of preference is its ability to use tertiary care on patients. Patients would link with a hospital that carries out special care, and these are some of the measures that increase the quality-of-care delivery in a health care institution. The developed research system at the Clinic has effectively developed new and unique care that aids in meeting the patient outcome. This mode of operation would as well affect the readiness of the Clinic in the next decade as it continues to carryout medical research that would meet the needs of the patients in the future.

The new knowledge gained in nursing practice at the Clinic always seeks to find the solution to practical health care problems. The management converges all its resources in developing new theories that guide health care delivery by generating, giving new knowledge, and redefining the system. The medical research at the institution aids in explaining and organizing reality. They offer storage for research findings related to nursing practice (Gill& France, 2019). The ability to store all information aids future researchers to base their research on the provided nursing theories in developing new ideas. All research studies need intense testing and support from a theoretical approach to meet the application criteria in solving nursing practice problems. Mayo Clinic also provides an adequate testing ground for all research done by professionals.

Strategic Plan

The current quality healthcare services offered at Mayo Clinic need to compel the management into expanding its services to more states within the US. The increase of Mayo health care centers within the US would have not only an impact on the revenue at the Clinic but also increase the extent of medical research in the US. The network growth in the next decade needs to commence from starting other three main branches in different states with the US (Wyles et al., 2021). This plan would aim at increasing its services to the patient and train more health care professionals to meet the needs of the patients.

The nurse staffing should increase exponentially because of the overall plan of increasing its outlets across the US. The nurses would undergo mentorship programs in the main branches before being tasked with a role in any of the new or existing branches at the Clinic (Wyles et al., 2021). More nurse informatics would be allowed to work at the company as they possess the skills required to take the Clinic to the next level. The health care industry is currently undergoing a constant transformation that would need nurses equipped with the technological skills to increase the competitive advantage of the Clinic.

The resources at the Clinic would gear towards changing the system to meet the patients’ expectations. For example, purchasing technological equipment that treats diseases that many people deem untreatable would be possible in the next decade (Wyles et al., 2021). Each day starts with the measures and options of using the current resources to meet patients’ satisfaction as these patients form the pillar of the organization.

Potential Issues

One of the future successes of Mayo clinic relies on the integration of technology in every clinical aspect to meet its goals. The past experience that the Clinic has had from the integration of technology has been tremendous and increased its value over time. However, despite the significance that technology plays in achieving the goals at the Clinic, it comes with its risks. The increase in cybercrime has been affecting the widespread use of technology in healthcare for fear of losing patients’ confidential data to criminals (Gill& France, 2019). Despite security measures that the Clinic has taken to ensure the safety of confidential client information, cyber threats still remain an imminent danger to the organization. As the Clinic expands its other centers and technology in those centers, they create additional entry points into the system that cybercriminals could use to infiltrate the entire organization’s system.

Theoretical Model

The classic 4-step approach to strategic planning at Mayo Clinic is one of the theoretical models that would allow the Clinic to meet its objectives. The approach allows the Clinic to understand their current situation, future direction, strategy development, and how they would know that they have met their goals in the next decade (Neururer et al., 2018). The model would help Mayo clinic to have a holistic approach in developing and drafting the plan for the next decade.

Conclusion

Mayo Clinic has shown a positive role it has been playing in healthcare. The future of the organization depends on its ability to expand its services for many patients across the US. Tertiary care offered by the Clinic has been achieved through intense research coupled with the intense application of technology. Besides, the resources at the Clinic further show its readiness to meet health care needs in the next decade.
