Study Drugs
Study drugs are the prescription medications students use to find relief in their study process during the study. The drugs aim to increase concentration and their cramming abilities. Some of the students using these drugs might have acquired them through prescribing, but they are using them improperly to meet their study goals (Magier et al., 2020). Others also acquire these drugs illegally without a doctor’s prescription, which is common among students. The police departments take it very seriously as the buying and usage of these drugs without prescriptions and for those who have prescriptions, selling their prescriptions is illegal. Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to explore effective interventions that should be taken to students abusing these study drugs.

While a student might be looking at the benefits of the study drugs, they pose extremely serious side effects to the users. Based on the perception of scholars, the abuse of these drugs increases blood pressure, changes sex drive, causes irregular heartbeats, and might even result in impotence as long-term effects (Day et al., 2018). On the other hand, these drugs also have short-term effects that include headaches, insomnia, restlessness, anxiety, paranoia, diarrhea, constipation, and mouth dryness. Overreliance on these drugs also has severe side effects on users (Bedrossian, 2019). Consequently, this results in altering users’ lives to the extent they might not be able to stop using the drugs even after school as they cannot rebound to their original states. Students prone to abuse should be taken through a series of counseling sessions to allow them to learn the side effects of these drugs. Policies in schools should also gear towards arresting students using these drugs. These drugs end up doing more harm than good in the end. While study drugs can have periodical benefits in the body, they have long-term harmful effects on users.
