NRNP 6675 Week 2 Assignment 2 Study Plan Paper
NRNP 6675 Week 2 Assignment 2 Study Plan Paper
A study plan is a summary of the requirements of a specific course that indicates when a student will study the planned subjects. It defines the methodology that the student will apply in preparing and planning, and the problems faced in each subject by an individual. It is crucial for PMHNP students preparing for their certification exams to create a study plan to help them increase their productivity and to study more effectively for success in the exams (Coppa & Winchester, 2020). Besides, a study plan helps to reduce stress and panic that occurs when the PMHNP student has to study a wide range of topics within a short time. The purpose of this paper is to refine my study plan by identifying areas of strength and weaknesses, the study goals, and the resources that will be used to achieve the study goals and tasks.

Current Strengths and Opportunities for Improvement
The strengths identified are in the domains of Scientific Knowledge, Psychotherapy and Related Theories, and Ethical and Legal Principles. Under Scientific Knowledge, I am well-versed in advanced pathophysiology, pharmacology, psychopharmacology, neurodevelopment, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and psychogenomics. In addition, under the domain of psychotherapy and related theories, I have adequate knowledge of psychotherapy principles, change, developmental, and family theories. Besides, I can apply ethical knowledge to develop and manage therapeutic alliances through creating empathy and boundaries, facilitating psychotherapy, and using the trauma-informed approach. Furthermore, in the domain of ethical and legal principles, I can apply ethics in clinical decision-making and can participate in patient advocacy.
Nonetheless, I identified some areas of opportunities that I need to improve on over this academic quarter. The areas of opportunities are under the domains Advanced Practice Skills and Diagnosis and Treatment, which happen to take the highest percentage of the exam. Under Advanced Practice Skills, I need to improve on my skills in clinical interviewing, conducting mental status exams, substance use, and mental health screening tool selection and interpretation, and managing psychiatric emergencies. Additionally, I need to work on polishing various skills under-diagnosis and treatment like selection and interpretation of diagnostic and laboratory tests, developing diagnostic impressions, making differential diagnoses, and selecting and monitoring psycho-pharmacotherapeutic and pharmacotherapeutic interventions.
Study Plan
SMART Goals
- By the end of week one, I will have gathered PMHNP exam study resources and review materials.
I will attain this by visiting the ANCC website since it offers the official exam review materials that help PMHNP students to understand the content and the structure of the exam (Coppa & Winchester, 2020). The materials also provide practice questions that allow students to become comfortable with its format.
- By the end of week two, I will have formed a study group with four other PMHNP students.
The study group meetings will be at least twice a week where we will identify topics that we need to improve and revise them throughout the exam preparation period. In addition, we will revise past exam questions to test our understanding of the content.
- By the end of week 12, I will have taken at least four exam review courses.
Taking a review course will be a great way to assess my knowledge of the test content and identify other areas of weakness.
- By the end of week 12, I will have attended at least three educational seminars and webinars for PMHNP exam preparation.
Educational seminars and webinars are vital in improving PMHNP students’ understanding of the exam content and helping them prepare for the certification exam (Gravel, 2018). I will attain this goal by checking the websites of PMHNP professional nursing organizations for upcoming seminars and webinars and registering to attend.

Resources
Resources that will be used in the exam preparation will include textbooks, PMHNP Board Review questions, the nursing certification review manual, PMHNP Exam Secrets Study Guide, and the PMHNP Exam Flashcards. The board review questions and Exam Secrets Study Guide have a similar format to the PMHNP certification exam and will thus be valuable in revision as they serve as a guide for the exam (Tankimovich, 2022). Besides, the certification review manual has a clinical reference tool, which is valuable in preparing for the certification examination. Past certification exams will also be valuable resources in gauging my understanding of the course content and assessing if I have improved my weak areas. Course textbooks will be used as references in various topics like pathophysiology, treatment ethical practice, and pharmacotherapeutics (Tankimovich, 2022). The textbooks can be found in the library, where I will also get past exam papers. Furthermore, flashcards will be valuable resources in gauging my understanding of the exam content and exam preparedness.
Conclusion
Adequate preparation for the PMHNP national licensure exam is crucial for any NP student. A study plan is important in helping the student to plan how to revise all the course content within a short period and allocate more time to areas of weakness. My strengths fall in the domains of scientific knowledge, psychotherapy and related theories, and ethical and legal principles, while my weaknesses are in advanced practice skills and diagnosis and treatment. I seek to join a study group, take exam review courses, and attend seminars and webinars for PMHNP exam preparation, which will help me to adequately prepare for the PMHNP exam.
