Topic 8 DQ 1

The professional nursing organizations that interest me most are The Clinical Nurse Leader Association (CNLA), the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL), and New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA). CNLA is a professional organization for CNLs based in the U.S. Its mission is to provide a forum for members in all practice settings to collaborate, collect data, publish results, network, promote high standards of practice, maintain a professional presence and stay informed on issues about their practice (CNLA, 2018). Besides, it provides educational opportunities to CNL members and informs the public of the CNL’s role. CNLA offers exciting and engaging professional opportunities for CNL practitioners, practice partners, educators, corporate partners, business members, and students. It aligns with my goals and worldview since it promotes high standards of CNL practice and enables CNLs to maintain a professional presence.

AONL is regarded as the voice of nursing leadership in the US. Its mission is to transform healthcare through expert and influential nursing leadership. AONL promotes positive change using a common voice to inspire transformation in health care. Its members include all nurse leaders at every stage of their careers (AONL, 2019). AONL aligns with my professional goals since it focuses on promoting nurse leaders’ professional development using education opportunities, which are innovative and competency-based learning opportunities.

NYSNA is a union of frontline nurses united for strength at work, nursing practice, safe staffing, and healthcare for all. NYSNA is New York’s largest union and professional association for registered nurses. Its mission is to care for all New Yorkers (NYSNA, n.d.). Thus, it advocates for laws that set safe staffing levels, protect nurses and patients, and guarantee healthcare for all. The organization aligns with my worldview that quality nursing care can only be met if there are adequate nurses to meet patients’ needs. NYSNA fights for safe staffing in every unit and every healthcare facility in the state.
