NRS 450 Topic 1 DQ 2 Discussion: Wisdom: In analyzing the information obtained, what wisdom did you discover or gain? Did you need to disseminate or share this new knowledge? If yes, to whom? What feedback did you receive?
Assessment Description
Throughout the RN-BSN Program, you have discussed many different nursing theories. In Informatics, the core elements of the field stem from the Foundation of Knowledge Model, also known as the Data-Information-Knowledge-Wisdom (DIKW) Paradigm.
Select a clinical scenario from your practice and analyze it using the Foundation of Knowledge Model.
Data: What data was collected and how?

Topic 1 DQ 2
Nursing theories and frameworks are essential in guiding practice and interventions that informatics nurses use in improving health outcomes and patient care. The data, information, knowledge, and wisdom (DIKW) theory offers a framework for nurse informatics as well as the larger nursing community to offer a foundation to link theory and practice (Cato et al., 2020). The scenario depicted transforming acquired data into information and acquiring knowledge for effective intervention. The nurses involved in the scenario acquired wisdom for future practice interventions.
In this scenario, data emanated from the electronic health records of the patient about their hypertension diagnosis. The data consisted of different aspects of the patient that required structuring to make better decisions. The EHR analyzed the data, organized and structured it to demonstrate what the patient required through interventions to reduce blood sugar levels. The analyzed data provided required patterns and recordings of patient monitoring to determine appropriate measures. Using this information, the practice nurse acquired knowledge of the relevant interventions when such events happen (Kaminski, 2021). For instance, the knowledge emanating from the information included constant and keen monitoring of high blood pressure patients using mobile devices and apps to avert any emergency care, and effective coordination between the patient, family, and providers.
The wisdom in this case illustrated that having these patterns is essential for nurse practitioners to make informed decisions concerning different aspects of patients and health populations. For instance, the nurse practitioner can offer preventive education to hypertensive patients like constantly monitoring blood pressure, and lifestyle changes. These interventions improve the application of evidence-based practice for nurses handling such patients (Varkey, 2021). Making informed decisions means that patients and health populations attain better education and information to adjust and prevent exacerbation of the disease leading to emergency care.
