Two critical insights emerge from the three articles selected in this discussion. In her article, Kate Fennel (2021) conducts a scoping review on conceptualizations of leadership and its relevance to the workforce in health and human service workforce development. The article asserts that developing leadership skills is a critical component of effective care delivery for leaders in healthcare. The article asserts that leadership skills are dynamic and leaders dealing with health and human services should possess effective skills based on transformational, servant, authentic, and shared or distributed approaches to influence others. Leadership needs respectful relationships and interactions with others. The second insight from the article by Cakir et al. (2020) is that leaders should share knowledge with the employees and their organizations. These include in work performance and development of strategy. Again, Rosenbach (2018) emphasizes the need for leaders to serve and bringing changes that are not based on self-interest but the interests of the followers. These articles emphasize the critical role of leaders inspiring and motivating their followers to do better and transform their settings for better delivery of care.

Leader demonstrating the Behaviors & Skills

Leaders in organizations must be transformational, focus on serving others and through their actions, earn trust. As a nurse manager or leader, one earns trust through honesty, integrity and confidence. For instance, one leader who has demonstrated these skills is my supervisor who has struck ethical values and core beliefs. Whenever an issue arises, the leaders ensures that all nurses and other providers affected get involved. The leader ensures that each person can voice their concerns and opinions on such issues. The leader is transformational and focuses on serving the interests of others first. For instance, he encourages nurses to advance their education and take an active role in being members of professional associations like the American Nurses Association. The leader has been pushing for increased incentives for nurses, especially through tuition reimbursement for those taking specialized training in different areas of care delivery. The leader once advocated for nurse interns to have a stipend as a way of appreciating their service and dedication to the organization and care delivery.

Effects of Skills and Practice in the Workplace

These skills were effective as they helped nurses and interns feel a sense of belonging and participation in different activities to improve care delivery. Effective leadership skills influence and inspire employees to perform. As articulated by Fennel (2021) performance requires sharing of knowledge and behaviors that inspire employees to do their best and deliver better care to patients. Through demonstrating their interest in employees, leaders allow organizations to attain their set goals that include quality care delivery. The facility is one of the most attractive to work in as nurses are inspired and motivated to deliver the best level of care for patients and work collaboratively with others through multidisciplinary and inter-professional settings.
