Can you imagine an athlete deciding to run a marathon without training for the event? Most ambitious people who have set this goal will follow a specific training plan that will allow them to feel confident and prepared on the big day. Similarly, if you want to feel confident and prepared for your certification exam, you should create and follow a plan that will thoroughly prepare you for success

A study plan is a structured schedule indicating study times and studying goals. PMHNP students preparing for their certification exams should create a schedule that sets aside dedicated time every week for studying. Developing a study plan allows the student to plan how to manage their time and ensure that they set aside enough time to cover all topics (Fowler et al., 2018). The purpose of this assignment is to modify the previous study plan, develop goals, and identify resources needed to accomplish these goals.

Strengths And Opportunities For Improvement
In the previous quarter, I conducted a self-evaluation to identify my strengths and areas of improvement in PMHNP with regard to the primary topics tested in the certification exam. The identified areas of strength based on the PMHNP topics include Advanced Pharmacology and Psychopharmacology, Patient-Centered Care, Clinical Interviewing, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in Psychiatry, Mental Status Exam, Diagnosis and Treatment, and Ethical and Legal Principles in mental health. However, I need to improve on some topics, including Mental Health Screening Tool Selection and Interpretation, Risk Assessment, Cultural and Spiritual Competence, and Psychotherapy theories, including change, developmental, and family theories.
SMART Goals
- By the end of week one, I will have joined a study group. I will invite 3 to 4 colleagues to help each other improve on our weaknesses (Smith et al., 2018).
- By the end of week three, I will have obtained past exam papers for PMHNP certification exams. I will attain this goal through the help of the Walden Library librarian and by sourcing the past papers from the internet.
- By the end of week twelve, I will have revised all the past PMHNP exam papers done in the past ten years. I will attain this goal by going through one past exam paper weekly to understand the exam structure and formatting of questions (Yusuff et al., 2018).
- By the end of week twelve, I will have attempted at least five practice exams. I will achieve the goal by undertaking at least one practice test biweekly.

Resources
Resources that will be used to attain the above goals include PMHNP textbooks, Exam Secrets Study Guide, and Exam Flashcards. These resources will act as a guide in exam preparation. In addition, the DSM-V manual will be a useful resource when studying the diagnosis of mental health disorders (Coppa & Winchester, 2020). Past exam papers will also help me evaluate if I have mastered the content.
Conclusion
A study plan is essential in helping PMHNP students manage their time and adequately revise for the certification exams. When creating the study plan, I will need to allocate more time to study weak areas like advanced practice and psychotherapy theories. Textbooks, study guides, and flashcards will be essential resources in studying for the exam.
