“The Witch” is a 2016 American horror film directed by Robert Eggers. The movie stars include Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie and Harvey Scrimshaw. “The Witch” is set in 1630s New England and follows a family who are banished from their Puritan community and forced to live in isolation due to their belief in naturism. One middle-aged critic said of the film, “This is assuredly one of the best films of the year. It tells the story of a family who is cast out of their Puritan community and must fend for themselves in the wild. The movie is full of religious symbolism and dark themes. One of the central themes of the movie is the struggle between good and evil (Zwissler 13). The witch represents evil, while the family represents good. The witch is constantly trying to corrupt and destroy the family, while the family members are constantly fighting to stay alive and protect each other. Another theme of the movie is temptation. The witch tempts the family with sin, and they must resist her temptations in order to survive.
