The essay seeks to discuss how often I engage with or witness death in my work as a nurse. It aims to discuss how death experience has shaped my view about and whether it has gotten easier or harder for me to accept the fact of death. Death is the irreversible stoppage of all vital functions, especially as shown by the permanent cessation of the heart, respiration, and brain activity. Death is considered brain stem death, where a person on an artificial life support machine no longer has any brain functions (Greer,2021). This means one can never regain awareness or be able to breathe without assistance.

As a nurse, I have witnessed death once in a while in my practice. One dies during or after the process devastates, especially when the death is caused due to personal negligence. I have learned that life is a precious gift, and seeing one die is traumatizing (Samanta, & Samanta, 2019). Thus, I have always been keen and highly professional in my practice as a surgeon to do my best to save a life.

As a Christian, I know that physical death is inevitable for human beings, and it is only God who has the final say over life or death. When it comes, as it will someday occur, one needs to put their trust in the life-giver (Knutson, 2020). Similarly, individuals must understand that death is not the end of everything. We can always ask God to give us the grace to move on with our lives, helping others live a life free from diseases that may hasten the cessation of life. As a subscriber to the Christian view about death, I believe there is life after death.  Death is the cessation of life- the irreversible stoppage of all the vital functions, especially as indicated by the permanent end of the heart, respiration, and brain. Death changes life, and it is traumatizing. As a Christian believer, I hold that death is not the end of life.
