Evidence-Based Practice Discussion Paper

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a problem-solving model in healthcare provision that leverages best evidence, clinical expertise, and patient preferences. The deployment of EBP is evident in different health care settings and organizations as providers focus on improving quality care outcomes for patients through leveraging best research evidence as well as reducing the cost of care (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2018). In this assignment, the reviewed website is by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) to determine if the website supports EBP interventions for nurse practitioners.

The AANP is a professional healthcare entity for nurse practitioners and nurse practitioner students. The organization boasts of over 121,000 members who work together to enhance patient care, improve care provision and advance the nursing profession, especially the specialty. The members of the organization can benefit from continuing education, opportunities to network, and advocacy as well as access to the most current update nursing and medical journals (AANPs, n.d). In exploring the different facets of the AANP website, I realized that the organization values evidence-based practice based on the evidence. For instance, its newsfeed place has an article on the benefits of EBP for nurse practitioners. The association is also categorical that EBP is part of standards of practice for nurse practitioners who focus on better care outcomes and integration of patient views and preferences through the patient-centered care model today.

The AANP’s work is grounded on evidence-based practice as demonstrated through its mission. The association’s mission is to empower all NPs with the aim of advancing accessible, patient-centered, equitable and best quality care for different communities by practice, advocacy, education, research work, as well as leadership. These attributes demonstrate the association’s focus on EBP.  The organization recognizes different aspects of care practice for nurses in the specialty and all these components require the involvement of patients and their families (AANP, 2018). The use of evidence, especially in a time when emerging and re-emerging chronic diseases are occurring, is essential to enhance quality of care for patients and healthcare providers.

The information discovered about this healthcare organization’s website has altered my perception of its existence and appreciated the fact that it is part of the overall professional nursing associations which prioritizes quality care among patients. The association is strategically placed to help nurses and other professionals enhance care delivery for different health populations. Members to the organization have increased opportunities to leverage better ways to enhance quality care among their patient populations (Walden University, 2018). Aligning my career goals and objectives with likeminded professionals in the AANP will help me attain better heights in nursing profession as progress by incorporating evidence-based practice (EBP).

When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.

In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.

To Prepare:

Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.
By Day 3 of Week 1
Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, EBP appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.
