Part 3B: Critical Appraisal of Research

Based on your appraisal, in a 1-2-page critical appraisal, suggest a best practice that emerges from the research you reviewed. Briefly explain the best practice, justifying your proposal with APA citations of the research.

The area of interest is fine for EBP study. My only suggestion to your PICOT is that the outcome is not measurable as stated. It also needs to be directional. So “fewer complications post procedure” could work or “improved patient satisfaction with the procedure” could work. These are just examples. Your research may give you an idea as well

There have been some questions about the references for the PICOT question (required for the DF this week) and if you are allowed to use the same references going forward in the course as you found for the week 3 assignment.

The answer is that depends! The week 3 assignment was to find research that just addressed the topic of your choice in general. So, for many in the class the articles addressed different interventions for a problem. That was fine for that assignment.

However, now you will want to zero in on ONE intervention. In your PICOT question you will suggest one intervention as a potential solution to the outcome you suggest, and all of your articles will need to convey research that investigated the effect of that one intervention on the outcome of your choice.

Some students for the week 3 assignment already found articles that researched only the one intervention, and for those students you may continue to use those studies for the remainder of the course. Others will need to continue searching. (I tried to indicate this in your feedback for assignment 2. Also, if I indicated your articles were out of date you will need to search for current studies.)
