Table 1: Respondent’s Age

Table 1 indicates the descriptive statistics for the respondent’s age. A total of 1000 respondents too part in the study. The minimum age of the respondents was 19.378 years while the maximum age was 49.43 years. The average age of the respondents was 36.64 years. The standard deviation from the mean was 6.1987.

Table 2: Highest School Grade Completed

Out of the 1000 respondents interviewed, 11 individuals did not provide the data on the highest school grade completed. However, for the respondents who provided this data, the minimum school grade completed is 1 while the maximum grade is 16. Table 3 indicates race and ethnicity for the study respondents. From the table, majority of the respondents were black, not Hispanic. This race constituted 80.3% of the respondents. Only one person failed to reveal race or ethnicity during the study. A total of 1000 people were asked about their race and ethnicity. Hispanic, White, not Hispanic, and others constituted, 12.8%, 5.3%, and 1.4% respectively.

Table 4 shows the descriptive statistic on the employment status for the respondents involved in the study. Out of 1000 respondents interviewed, only two respondents failed to reveal their employment status or the data was missing. 45.3% (452 respondents) of the respondents were employed while 54.7% (546 respondents) were unemployed.

Graph 1 indicates a histogram for the respondent’s age at the time of interview. The graph shows a normal distribution of age data with a mean of 36.64 and a standard deviation of 6.199. The maximum age was 49.43 years while the minimum age was 19.378.

Graph 2 indicates a normal distribution of data on highest school grade completed with a mean of 11.28 and a standard deviation of 1.561. The highest grade completed was 16 while the least grade was 1.

Table 5: Family Income

Table 5 indicates the family income for the respondents involved in the study process. Out of the 1000 respondents, only 895 revealed their family income. The family with the highest income received $6,595. The minimum income was $0. In other words, there were respondents who came from the family with no income. Out of the 895 respondents, the average family income was $1,172.59 with a standard deviation of $788.153.

Graph 3 shows that the data on family income prior month was normally distributed with a mean of $1,172.59 with a standard deviation of $788.153. The highest income was $6,595.

There are many purposes for frequency and descriptive statistics in data analysis. Some of the most common uses include exploring data, understanding relationships between variables, and making predictions.
