The waterfall methodology is also known as the traditional management method and followers a linear and sequential process (Khoza & Marnewick,2020). For this model, each phase of the project is completed before proceeding to the next phase. The methodology also has its strengths and weaknesses. The model is easy to understand and use it as it follows a sequential manner, the phases in this model are completed each at a time and as such there are no overlapping phases and since the model is rigid, management is easier. However, unlike agile methodology, there is no flexibility and as such when the application is in the testing stage, it is impossible to go back and rectify anything. Besides, working software can only be produced at the very late stages of the project. This is an iterative four stage problem used in improving a process and carrying out change (Prybutok, 2018). The fours stages include, plan, do, study and act. ·         Effective in all situations.

This methodology has gained a lot of popularity over the years among project teams that are engaged in software development. The popularity has come as a result of the methodology efficiency in project management. Agile methodology has brought about flexibility in project. management as opposed to traditional methods which followed a fixed process. The approach that helps cross-functional and self-sufficient teams to work on continuously delivering.
