Identify your specialty area of NP practice. Select a nursing theory, borrowed theory, or interdisciplinary theory provided in the lesson plan or one of your own findings. Address the following: Origin Meaning and scope Logical adequacy Usefulness and simplicity Generalizability Testability Finally, provide an example of how the theory could be used to improve or evaluate the quality of practice in your specific setting. What rationale can you provide that validates the theory as applicable to the role of the nurse practitioner?

Nursing Theory
Watson’s Theory of Transpersonal Caring was developed by Jean Watson from 1975 to 1979 based on her nursing perception. Jean anticipated that the theory would distinguish nursing science from medical science. Watson’s theory centers on how nurses express care to patients. It asserts that caring is a core element in nursing practice and promotes health better than basic medical approaches (Wei & Watson, 2018). It has four primary concepts: health, human being, society/environment, and nursing.
Watson’s theory’s logical adequacy is supported by its ten carative factors that interact with the four primary concepts to develop a caring relationship. Besides, the theory’s factors and individual parts are used to carry out a collective process that fosters the desired patient care outcomes, which shows its usefulness (Wei et al., 2020). The theory’s simplicity is evident because it defines that the science of caring is founded on the ten carative factors, which nurses can effortlessly apply in practice. The theory’s generalizability is seen in its generalized nursing framework that can be applied in various patient care circumstances. According to Wei and Watson (2018), Watson’s theory has previously been used in various nursing specialties, including community health nursing, geriatrics, occupational health nursing, and chronic disease care. Its efficacy in these nursing specialties supports its testability.

Watson’s theory’s Caritas process can be employed to enhance the quality of NP practice in medicine cardiology. The carative factors are crucial in creating a patient’s connection on a spiritual level and promoting care transactions. Thus, the care transactions can improve the well-being and quality of life of patients with cardiac diseases through the Caritas process and care interventions (Brewer et al., 2020). Watson’s theory can be applied in the NP role because the NP involves emotions when developing a caring relationship with clients while focusing on patients’ health needs.
