Effective nursing leadership is important for healthcare transformation and realization of the set outcomes in nurses’ patient care. I learned some insights on nursing from the selected sources for this discussion. One of them is that moral compass guides nurse leaders. They use the overall, big picture in implementing organizational and nursing strategies. They aim at understanding the effects of the macro strategies on micro level performance in their organizations. Nurse leaders ensure that they incorporate the input of other nurses in implementing initiatives for collective improvements in service delivery (Salvage & White, 2019). The other insight obtained from the resources is that nurse leaders are emotionally intelligent. Their emotional intelligence can be seen from their ability to identify their and others feelings and emotions and use them to guide their decisions (Prezerakos, 2018). They utilize their feelings in ways that benefit themselves and those they serve.

I have witnessed my operating room nurse manager and leader utilize the above concepts in practice. The nurse leader utilizes moral compass in making decisions that affect us in the department. They consider the impact of wider organizational decisions on the lower levels of service delivery. She recognizes the importance of seeking our input on decisions to be adopted in the department before implementing them. The nurse leader also seeks to understand our feelings about organizational strategies and utilizes them to make decisions that will benefit all of us. The adoption of these strategies has been effective. There is a high level of teamwork, openness, honesty, and trust among the staff in the department (Cable & Graham, 2018). Nurses are also highly motivated to play a proactive role in the identification of innovative strategies that can be adopted to improve care outcomes.

Discussion 1: Leadership Theories in Practice
A walk through the Business section of any bookstore or a quick Internet search on the topic will reveal a seemingly endless supply of writings on leadership. Formal research literature is also teeming with volumes on the subject.
However, your own observation and experiences may suggest these theories are not always so easily found in practice. Not that the potential isn’t there; current evidence suggests that leadership factors such as emotional intelligence and transformational leadership behaviors, for example, can be highly effective for leading nurses and organizations.
Yet, how well are these theories put to practice? In this Discussion, you will examine formal leadership theories. You will compare these theories to behaviors you have observed firsthand and discuss their effectiveness in impacting your organization.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and examine the leadership theories and behaviors introduced.
Identify two to three scholarly resources, in addition to this Module’s readings, that evaluate the impact of leadership behaviors in creating healthy work environments.
Reflect on the leadership behaviors presented in the three resources that you selected for review,
Post two key insights you had from the scholarly resources you selected. Describe a leader whom you have seen use such behaviors and skills, or a situation where you have seen these behaviors and skills used in practice. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain to what extent these skills were effective and how their practice impacted the workplace.
