We had a conference call with the instructor, Dr. Rudd, and my preceptor on 27th April 2023, whereby we discussed the plans for the final project and then narrowed down from an idea to one topic that will be the focus of the final project. I presented three patient demographics. The three demographics I had included a patient with a trach collar, a wounded, or a long-term antibiotic patient. I selected the patient demographic of focus as the wounded patient. Still, the instructor and my preceptor suggested that I narrow it down to something more specific, like elderly patients at the RML specialty hospital. Additionally, I presented my ideas for the picot statement. From my preceptor’s and instructor’s advice, I developed my picot question statement. The developed PICOT question is;

Among elderly patients at RML specialty hospital, does the educational program on patient falls, compared to routine fall risk assessment, help patients and nurses take precautions to prevent patient falls in ten weeks?

For the final project, I intend to add an educational program to RML specialty hospital- Long term center to assist nurses and patients in implementing the necessary precautions to prevent patient falls and fall-related injuries in the institution. My preceptor included that I should keep in contact with her at every step of the project process for further inquiry and direction.
