Health organizations operate in highly dynamic and complex environments. Their success largely depends on the effectiveness and success of the strategies utilized to respond to actual and potential needs in their markets (Dalvandi et al.,2019). Nurses and other healthcare providers utilize interventions such as teamwork to ensure the realization of the desired institutional outcomes. Therefore, this essay explores the nature of my work setting, importance of compassion, advocacy, resilience, evidence-based practice, and iCare components to nursing, healthcare, and patient outcomes.

Type of Work Setting
I work as an operating room nurse in my practice site. The practice site is a tertiary hospital involved in the provision of specialized and general care to its populations. It is largely known for its high-quality services, patient-centeredness, and safety in the care given to those in need. Therefore, I will be discussing my work setting in this paper. Interprofessional teams are currently present in my work setting. Physicians, nurses, anesthesia specialists, and other staff working in the operating room work as a team. They collaborate in examining how to improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of patient care in the department.
One of the team functions that could be improved to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency outcomes in the department is communication. Communication between physicians and other staff is often not open and transparent. The other staff feels that physicians do not adequately involve them in the patient care processes in the department. Improving this aspect would result in enhanced care coordination, satisfaction, and active staff involvement in the adoption of interventions that would contribute to high quality outcomes in the patient care processes (Kalaitzidis & Jewell, 2020).
Compassion
Compassion is an important trait for nurses and other healthcare providers. It encompasses one’s feelings that arise from witnessing the pain that others are experiencing. The feelings make one to initiate measures to help those suffering to overcome their problems. As a result, compassion enhances the moral and human aspect of care that ensures responsiveness of nursing care to patient needs. Compassionate care contributes to care outcomes that include high patient satisfaction rate with care, safe care, cost-efficiency, and high confidence among the healthcare providers (Dalvandi et al., 2019).
One of the nursing actions that could contribute to compassionate care and improved patient outcomes is identifying patient needs and expectations before to help in planning and delivering the care. Identification of needs and expectations enables nurses to develop plans of care that align with the patient’s values, beliefs, and preferences. It also ensures the appropriateness of the adopted interventions. As a result, nurses and other healthcare providers achieve patient outcomes such as satisfaction with care, empowerment, and sustainable change (Dalvandi et al., 2019). It also contributes to a culture of safety and patient-centeredness in the care process.
Advocacy
Advocacy is another concept in nursing that influences nursing practice. It entails the actions that nurses take to protect the patients’ rights in the care process. The concept stems from nursing philosophy that nurses support their patients to promote their health and wellbeing, as understood by them. Advocacy contributes to ethical nursing and healthcare practice (Kalaitzidis & Jewell, 2020). An example of an action that contributes to advocacy in nursing and healthcare is tracking medical errors. Nurses and other healthcare providers are responsible for patient safety. As a result, they are involved in investigating near miss or medical errors in their practice. They adopt interprofessional teamwork to examine the factors that led to errors and strategies needed to prevent future occurrences (Abbasinia et al., 2020). Tracking errors impact culture of the unit by ensuring patient safety and use of best practices for optimum outcomes. It also improves patient outcomes such as costs, recovery time, and eliminates avoidable harm that could arise from the errors.
Resilience
Resilience is another concept in nursing that encompasses nurses’ ability to overcome adversities in their professional and personal lives. Resilience enables nurses to overcome their stressors in life and adapt positively, which contributes to their mental health and their psychological wellbeing. Resilience has a mediating effect between physical and mental health and burnout (Kester & Wei, 2018). An example of a nursing action that contributes to resilience, interprofessional team support, organizational culture, and improved patient outcomes is self-development based on one’s inner self.
Self-development based on one’s inner self entails nurses and other healthcare providers recognizing signs of adversity and aiming to develop effective strategies for managing it. This helps them grow during their stressful experiences and not suffer from it. The use of this practice strengthens interprofessional teamwork since providers can collaborate in learning how to overcome adversities. It also improves patient outcomes by eliminating errors arising from altered mental and psychological health of the caregivers (KIM & CHANG, 2022). It also increases the need for the organizational adoption of measures to improve resilience among their staff.
Evidence-Based Practice
Nurses and other healthcare providers have adopted evidence-based practice to guide patient care decisions in the current world. It entails the utilization of best research evidence, clinical guidelines, patient values, and one’s expertise in making patient care decisions. Evidence-based practice improves patient outcomes as well as practice environment in healthcare. Consistent use of evidence-based practices in nursing helps in building knowledge, minimizing gaps in practice and education, standardizes practices, and improves patient outcomes (Abu-Baker et al., 2021; Mathieson et al., 2019). Therefore, it is important that nurses base their decisions on best and up-to-date research evidence to ensure improved outcomes in their patient care.
An example of a nursing action in evidence-based practice that contribute to interprofessional team support, organizational culture, and patient outcomes is training nurses and other healthcare providers on use of evidence-based practices. Training is an essential tool that builds confidence in healthcare providers on the translation of evidence into practice. It helps them develop knowledge and skills of selecting best sources of evidence that inform their decisions. Training improves organizational culture. It strengthens the consistent utilization of evidence-based practices, which create a culture of safety, quality, and efficiency in the patient care processes (Abu-Baker et al., 2021). Training also improves patient outcomes. It contributes to the delivery of patient-centered care that addresses prioritized and potential patient needs.
Conclusion
iCare components that include compassion, advocacy, resilience, and evidence-based practice support interprofessional teams and patient outcomes. The components increase the need for interprofessional teamwork among healthcare providers for the delivery of care that optimizes patient outcomes. Nurses should engage in activities that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of interprofessional teams. They can achieve this utilizing strategies such as active participation of interprofessional teams, open communication, providing feedback, and training them on the adoption of best practices in the care process. By focusing on the above, nurses will contribute to enhanced patient outcomes as well as the creation of an organizational culture focused on safety, quality, and efficiency in the patient care processes.
