NR 707A Week 1 Discussion: The Role of the DNP-Prepared Nurse as Project Manager
Purpose
This discussion aims to explore the role of the DNP-prepared nurse as the project manager. A particular emphasis will be on project scope management and communication with stakeholders. During a project, problems are frequently related to the project scope and inadequate communication with stakeholders. Planning and implementing strategies to avoid scope creep and to provide ample stakeholder communication will support the project’s success.
Instructions
All students respond to Part 1 and Part 2 every week. Use the numbered questions as headers in your response. Students who are implementing respond to Part 1 and Part 2—Implementing. Students who are conducting a case study respond to Part 1 and Part 2—Case Study.

Part 1: All Students
Reflect upon your readings and professional experience and address the following in 150 words or less:
Scope creep can cause project failure, especially when the complexity of the healthcare environment changes and the increased needs of the patients, stakeholders, or organizations are pressing. Propose your strategies to ensure the project scope remains intact for the implementation duration.
Stakeholder communication is essential for a successful DNP practice change project. Explain your strategies for effective communication with stakeholders, including frequency and the method of communication. (For this discussion question, you may refer to our required article this week, Rajhans [2018], or other scholarly articles.)
Part 2: Students Implementing at the Practicum Site
For this week’s implementation update, address the following:
State your practice question in PICOT format.
State the week # for your intervention implementation.
Post the weekly details of your implementation plan so we can follow your implementation throughout this class. Include the dates for your project milestones (e.g., education, data collection cycles, enrollment, intervention implementation beginning, formative evaluation frequency, length of intervention implementation, transition to sustaining the practice change with stakeholders, and data analysis.)
Provide a detailed update on your implementation progress. Include an example(s) of successes, challenges, and barriers, and note any concerns.
You may use the example below for guidance as needed.

State your practice question in PICOT format and include the week # for your implementation.
Create a detailed description of your case study project implementation. (Please note that the intervention must be implemented for a full 8 weeks in your case study plan).
Compose a detailed response to the following:
How has the pandemic affected organizational operations?
How did COVID-19 affect the development of your project?
Examine in detail how you will address these issues that could potentially occur:
Not all participants (staff and/or patients) attended as planned, and some staff were out sick. How will you follow up with them?
There are float nurses and traveler nurses on the unit. How will this impact your project plan?
Internet speed, access, and bandwidth are causing problems with the virtual meetings you have set up. What is your backup plan?

Design a plan to lead nurses in coping with these changes and challenges they are experiencing. Explain in detail the creative solutions that can address the barriers and/or optimize the facilitators.
You are continuing to conduct your formative evaluation for intervention fidelity and provide feedback. Build your case study practice change project and explain in detail what you are learning about project implementation. This detailed discussion might include learning about the complexity of a practice change project at your specific practice site environment. Describe the complexity of that environment in detail. Examine your detailed intervention implementation plan. Assess if your plan was detailed enough to support high intervention fidelity. State some additional information that you could have added to your intervention plan to support high intervention fidelity during implementation.
Devise an intervention “reminder” or “practice prompt” you can provide for staff to support intervention fidelity. Explain in detail the reminders or practice prompt and how this addition will support high intervention fidelity.
Examine and explain your data collection plan before intervention implementation. Describe if you were able to collect the data needed and how that was collected. State who collected the data, what data was collected, and how that data relates to your outcome for the practice change project. If the data was not able to be collected, describe the barriers, and what you need to do to ensure that you will have the data to evaluate the success of the practice change project implementation. NUR 707A week 4 Discussion: The Role of the DNP-Prepared Nurse Leader
Purpose
The purpose of this discussion is to explore the role of the DNP-prepared nurse leader and the various activities within that role.
What is the impact of the DNP-prepared nurse leader on today’s healthcare systems?
How do you anticipate integrating this leadership role in your current or future career?
In your opinion, what is needed for successful professional identity formation for DNP-prepared nurse graduates to achieve healthcare systems leadership positions?
Part 2: Students Implementing at the Practicum Site
For this week’s implementation update, address the following:
State your practice question in PICOT format.
State the week # for your intervention implementation.
Evaluate your implementation progress and any successes, barriers, or challenges you are experiencing with your practice change project implementation.
Examine your leadership style in your DNP practice change project implementation specifically. What is your leadership style in your practice change project? Explain your assessment of your leadership style and determine if it is congruent with the stakeholder team. Defend your reasons why it is or is not congruent. If not congruent, how might your leadership style need to change?
Part 2: Students Completing the Case Study
For this week’s case study update, address the following:
State your practice question in PICOT format and include the week # for your implementation.
Examine best practices for implementing evidence-based practice guidelines with references sufficient to support best practice.
Propose strategies for overcoming barriers in implementing evidence-based practice with references sufficient to support strategies. Include detailed example(s) of how you will implement each strategy.
Create a detailed discussion about your ongoing implementation progress. Build your discussion about what the implementation looks like at this point in your practice change project. List the details of your meetings with staff and stakeholders. (Include the weekly meeting frequency, who is attending, how many meetings did you host this week, and the topics of discussion.)
Explain the results of your formative evaluations. How are you addressing challenges and providing feedback if the fidelity is lower than expected? If the fidelity is high, describe how you are encouraging participants.
Describe in detail what you are learning about practice change project implementation that may be different than your original expectations.
Examine your leadership style. What is your leadership style? Assess if your leadership style works in this case study practice change project? Explain your assessment of your leadership style and determine if it is congruent with the stakeholder team. Defend your reasons why it is or is not congruent. If not congruent, how might your leadership style need to change?
Given the current challenges, assess the benefits and risks of your leadership style and how this can affect the practice change project implementation.
Note: Robust responses are required to fulfill the Case Study requirements. Use the numbered points provided as headings.

Identify a minor course correction that may be needed to support intervention fidelity. Explain how this minor correction might cause a minor modification or adjustment in your practice change project plan. (Keep in mind that after IRB approval only minor project plan adjustments are made)
Describe the type of communications and with whom is needed for practice change project success. Speculate how stakeholder communication might change as the practice change project moves forward. Explicate how you are engaging the stakeholders and the participants of your project at this point in the implementation.
