            Under the guidance of my preceptor throughout my early nursing practice, I acquired several communication skills that I still use today. When caring for middle-aged adult patients with many medical illnesses, I used several communication tools to enhance contact and the quality of treatment. These communication tools include the SBAR Nurse Communication Tool, the BATHE Protocol, and the Patient Teach-Back (Moore et al., 2020).

SBAR is an abbreviation for Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation. It is a structured communication strategy designed to facilitate proper information flow between two individuals (Moore et al., 2020). The BATHE protocol, similar to SBAR, aims to comfort the patient, alleviate suffering, and enhance the nurse-patient connection. Utilizing patient teach-back is a successful communication technique to confirm the patient’s comprehension of the information a nurse conveys. To enhance technology in this scenario, all the communication methods above may be integrated into a HIPAA-compliant text messaging platform.
