The fundamental principles of servant leadership are: leaders must put the needs of their followers first. This means that leaders must always be looking for ways to help their followers grow and improve, both professionally and personally. Leaders need to be humble. They should never view themselves as above or superior to their followers. Instead, they should see themselves as servants who are there to help others reach their goals (Hoch et al., 2018). Leaders should be ethical and honest in everything they do. They should never make decisions that benefit themselves at the expense of others, and they should always act with integrity. Finally, leaders must be willing to listen to their followers and consider their feedback seriously. NRS 451 Topic 3 DQ 1

There are many qualities of servant leadership, but two that stand out in particular when it comes to interprofessional communication are humility and empathy. Humility means being able to put the needs of others before your own, and empathy means understanding and feeling what another person is feeling (Farrington & Lillah, 2018). These qualities are essential in order for a leader to be able to understand the perspectives of others and make decisions that will benefit the team as a whole. In healthcare, it is especially important for leaders to be able to communicate effectively with other members of the team in order to provide quality patient care.

In providing patient care, humility and empathy support interprofessional communication by creating an environment in which team members are able to build trust and share information.
