Previous research into nursing care gave rise to numerous theories that form the basis for the kind of nursing care nurses should provide. Examples of nursing theories include health promotion, self-care, human caring, and interpersonal relationships. The Interpersonal relationship theory by Hildegard E. Peplau is an applicable theory that can be used in patients with complex needs. In this stage, the patient engages the nurse by defining his problem, seeking assistance, asking questions regarding his problem, and inquiring about the kind of help he requires. On the other hand, it is the nurse’s role to identify a patient’s problems and needs while responding to his inquiries.
The second stage is the identification stage, where the patient works with the nurse in selecting the appropriate professional assistance they require. In addition, this stage allows the patient to fully express himself and raise his concerns, resulting in the patient having a sense of belonging and ability to handle his complex needs (Periera et al., 2023).
