NRS 465 Topic 9 DQ 2 Assessment Description

Sustaining change can be difficult, as there are many variables that can affect implementation. One critical component of EBP is to ensure that practice change is part of an organization’s culture so it will continue to impact outcomes over time. Name two potential barriers that may prevent your evidence-based change proposal from continuing to obtain the same desired results 6 months to a year from now and your strategies for overcoming these challenges.

NRS 465 Topic 9 DQ 2 Sample

Change sustenance in evidence-based practice (EBP) can be challenging due to several factors that hinder not just healthcare professionals but even organizations. A core part of the EBP is to ensure that practice change becomes a part and component of an organization’s culture and processes so it can result in quality patient outcomes in the long term. However, possible barriers can prevent the proposed evidence-based practice (EBP) from getting the desired outcomes six months to even a year from now. These include resource limitations and organizational support due to resistance to change among nurses and other providers (Alqahtani et al., 2022). Limited resources mean that providers cannot continue collecting data or improving the mobile applications to improve medication adherence. For instance, new versions that integrate new trends for effective monitoring may require funding and other resources. When the organization fails to offer such critical resources, it would be difficult to sustain the EBP (Fossum et al., 2022). Moreover, leaders and managers within the organization must support the EBP to enhance acceptance and reduce possible resistance from nurses. As such, these barriers will hinder better implementation of the proposed intervention. NRS 465 Topic 9 DQ 2

Overcoming these possible barriers requires implementing necessary strategies that include engaging stakeholders through effective communication and planning as well as seeking external sources to fund the EBP (Sharplin et al., 2020). For instance, effective communication and involvement of all stakeholders, especially nurses in the facility, will alleviate any fears and misunderstandings about the proposed EBP. Planning for resources required to roll out and sustain the intervention is critical to sustaining the required change. As posited by Melnyk and Fineout-Overholt (2022), these strategies are critical to sustaining change and integrating it as part of the organizational culture in the practicum site and other healthcare organizations. Support to the support may entail more training, developing customized approaches based on patient needs, and increased integration of better models to enhance outcomes.
