NRS 493 Topic 1 Capstone Change Project Sample
Nursing practice is anchored on the intent to enhance patient outcomes. Patient outcomes depict the results of nursing care on patients. Nursing change projects are instrumental in assessing the preparedness and application of innovative approaches by healthcare settings to deal with challenges within the healthcare system and the population’s health issues. The following are the possible topics for my capstone change project.
Infection Control
Hospital-acquired infections are currently among the leading healthcare problems in many hospitals and are linked to significant negative implications including high cost of care, high mortality rates, high morbidity rates, and longer hospital stay days (Thandar et al., 2021). Infection control in nursing involves addressing factors associated with the spread of infection to control and prevent the spread from patient to patient, or from patients to healthcare providers or the community. Reducing Childhood Obesity
The needs assessment demonstrated a high prevalence of childhood obesity in the community. Childhood obesity has become a pandemic and is presently a major public health concern affecting millions of children in the US and globally (Weihrauch-Blüher et al., 2019). It is associated with various preventable non-communicable chronic diseases (Taghizadeh et al., 2023). Therefore, it is crucial to address childhood obesity to prevent its overwhelming outcomes to improve the quality of life in children.
Development of Policies that Protect Children from Passive Smoking
The needs assessment revealed that passive smoking poses a serious health challenge to children (Semple et al., 2019). As such, this capstone project can explore regulatory measures that can be implemented to safeguard children from exposure to environmental tobacco use.
Management of Fall Risks among the Elderly within Healthcare Facilities
The needs assessment revealed that falls in elderly patients are highly prevalent in healthcare facilities (Close & Lord, 2022). Falls lead to adverse outcomes such as internal bleeding, disabilities, fractures, deaths, and lacerations, which require more healthcare utilization (Ang et al., 2020). As such, this project can explore effective fall prevention strategies through the management of underlying fall risk factors and by improving the hospital’s environment and physical design.
