Professional presentation skills are critical in helping nursing students convey information and convince relevant stakeholders to implement changes that can positively impact patients’ healthcare and healthcare organizations. One of my professional presentation strengths is conducting thorough research about the given topic by ensuring early preparations and avoiding unnecessary procrastination (Kvint et al., 2020). This is crucial in providing sufficient time to edit and re-edit the content of the presentation to enhance clarity and organization before formally making the final presentation before the intended audience. Conversely, one of my professional presentation weaknesses is fear of the crowd. Usually, I tend to become uneasy and tense while making a presentation before a huge crowd of audience. Various factors may be experienced that may prevent my EBP change proposal from continuing to obtain the same desired results six months to one year from now. One of the barriers is the communication. Poor communication may cause resistance to change among healthcare professionals and patients since they may not understand the essence of introducing the change (Kong et al., 2022). Communication barriers can be attributed to poor language choice or failure to seek input from relevant stakeholders such as nurses and patients about organizational processes and the need for change. In turn, this causes resistance, which makes it challenging for the organization to attain the objectives of the change proposal (Lauer, 2020). The other barrier is a lack of motivation to implement the change. This is individual barrier can be caused by various factors such as poor awareness of the need for change, lack of incentives to execute change, negative attitude about the change, and fear of the unknown (Dagne & Beshah, 2021). These factors can collectively cause low motivation to implement the change.
The challenge of the communication barrier can be addressed by training stakeholders about effective communication strategies during change implementation. Nurses should also be encouraged to attend seminars that focus on EBP implementation. This will assist in enhancing communication skills and put nurses in a better position to convey the proposal and the essence of change, which is critical in preventing resistance to change (Kong et al., 2022). To address the challenge of lack of motivation, organizations should provide necessary incentives to nurses and other healthcare professionals responsible for change implementation (Dagne & Beshah, 2021). For instance, when the lack of motivation is attributed to workload, the organization can promote interdisciplinary collaboration to help in addressing workload and encourage knowledge sharing among clinicians.
