Week 10 Discussion
Nursing research is an elemental area as it is the foundation of nursing practice. Nursing practice is constantly developing. Nursing research is a source of evidence used for nursing practice. It develops knowledge about health and health promotion. Evidence-based practice is currently vastly recognized as crucial to improving healthcare quality and patient outcomes (Chien, 2019). Consequently, nurses must develop nursing research capacity, which is the ability to conduct nursing research activities in a sustainable manner in a specific context (Chen et al., 2019). Nursing research encompasses several activities, including analyzing current practices to formulate researchable problems, evaluating research as the basis for decision-making, developing research proposals, investigating ethical issues related to conducting scientific research and exploring national and international initiatives and research priorities. The aforementioned activities have been the focus of this course over the past 10 weeks.
In this course, I must say most, but not all activities of this course were met. For instance, I managed to meet objectives such as formulating researchable problems, developing a research proposal, synthesizing and understanding the research process, and investigating ethical issues related to conducting scientific research. I met these objectives partly by reviewing the course materials, participating in discussion forums, and reviewing the current literature. However, objectives such as exploring national and international initiatives and research priorities were only partially met. I intend to continue reviewing the current literature and analyze current healthcare and nursing trends to identify national and international initiatives as well as research priorities. Additionally, I intend to advance my nursing research skills and experience by going through various research projects, participating in virtual meetings that deal with research and enrolling in an online nursing research course, and actively participating in and conducting research. Finally, if allowed to go through this course again, I will focus principally on enhancing my ability to analyze current literature to develop a formidable research proposal.
