            Nurses play a crucial role in the promotion of optimum outcomes for their populations. They adopt evidence-based interventions that contribute to care outcomes such as quality, safety, and efficiency. In doing so, nurses are guided by their personal worldviews. Worldviews represents the philosophy that informs the decisions that nurses make in their daily practice. Therefore, this discussion post examines my personal worldview and its effect on my future role and scope as an advanced registered nurse.

Personal Worldview

            My worldview as a nurse focuses mainly on the provision of compassionate, patient-centered care. I believe that nurses should demonstrate honesty, compassion, and patient-centeredness in the care process. Honesty strengthens the trust that patients and other healthcare providers have towards each other. Culture holds a central part in my philosophy in nursing. I believe that nurses should provide culturally appropriate care to their patients. Culturally-appropriate care has been shown to contribute to care outcomes such as patient empowerment, lifestyle and behavioral modification, and adherence to treatment (Sharifi et al., 2019). It also eliminates barriers to healthcare due to cultural diversity-related issues.

            My worldview and cultural and spiritual competence will affect my role and scope of practice as an advanced registered nurse. First, they will increase the need for the adoption of patient-centered care interventions in my practice. The use of patient-centered care practices will contribute to high quality care, minimization of errors, and empowerment of patients to be proactively involved in meeting their care needs. The competence will also inform my use of evidence-based practices in caring for diverse populations (Håkansson Eklund et al., 2019).
