Collaboration in inter-professional and providing evidence-based, and patient-centered care implores leaders to possess certain skills and use leadership theories to attain better results and outcomes when implementing integrated EHR systems. In their article, Slater et al. NUR 514 Benchmark-Electronic Health Record Implementation (2023) observe that collaborative leaders possess and implement shared vision and values, interdependence and shared responsibility, mutual respect, and empathy. These leaders are also willing to be vulnerable, and ambiguous, and value synergy and effective communication. Bornman et al. (2023) emphasized the importance of leadership skills to improve inter-professional collaboration and teamwork. Therefore, leadership requires effective communication skills, people-centered approaches, and empathy to enhance inter-professional teams.  They require team-building attributes, conflict-resolution abilities, and emotional intelligence to make effective decisions. Additionally, inter-professional collaboration teams require leaders who share their vision, practice ethical attributes, and are servants. By integrating these skills and leadership styles or theories, leaders can effectively facilitate and build inter-professional collaboration teams and deliver evidence-based patient-centered care through a new electronic health records system integrated with telehealth to improve access to quality care for patients from remote locations.

Conclusion

The implementation of an integrated electronic health records (EHR) system is essential in improving access to healthcare through telehealth and other health technologies. The proposed integrated EHR system demonstrates the importance of various aspects of project management in healthcare and the role of informatics. The EHR system implementation requires linked systems and staff with relevant competencies and appropriate strategies for better outcomes. The implementation team should consider and comply with existing legal, professional, and ethical requirements for a better system that protects patient data and information. Leaders in the organization should demonstrate better skills and styles to implement the system and attain its expected outcomes through an inter-professional collaboration team.
