Clear and open or transparent communication is essential in healthcare setting, especially in inter-professional collaboration teams. Effective communication ensures that members of such teams, irrespective of their professional background and diversity, can share ideas and common approaches as well as care plans when dealing with patients and health populations (Franz et al., 2020). Communication clarity improves the overall quality of care and patient safety.

Communication technologies are a critical component of effective communication in inter-professional teams between they enhance seamlessly interoperability or sharing of patient health information to make effective care decisions through a common approach. These technologies offer platforms that enable real-tome sharing of information, collaboration, and a common approach to care provisions based on better decision making (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). For instance, real-time information sharing improves interoperability as providers can exchange patient health records, especially up to date information leading to better care and reduction of risks like medication errors. These technologies also enhance collaboration. For instance, electronic health records (EHRs) enable members of the inter-professional team to work together in a more effective manner.

Through EHRs, they can seamlessly access current patient information and discuss plans of care as well as make collective decisions. These technologies also improve accessibility to health information as providers can get patient details anywhere without having to be physically present. On certain example of communication technologies revolutionizing healthcare communication is electronic health records (EHRs) which are digital versions of patient charts and contain all health information for individuals (Hacker et al., 2020). EHRs enhance coordination by offering comprehensive patient information, real-time updates so that inter-professional team members can get the most recent data and information, and improved communication as they can leave notes and make collective decisions and develop common plans.  As such, communication technologies are fundamental to inter-professional teams because of the roles that they play to improve care provision.

Topic 8 DQ 2

Virtual care and telehealth technologies continue change the healthcare industry by enhancing access to health, especially for patients in remote locations or areas. The recent COVID-19 pandemic shows the critical role of telehealth and virtual care through its benefits despite possible drawbacks. Virtual care and telehealth increase access to care as they allow patients in remote areas to get care services without travelling for long distances (Haleem et al., 2021). This is especially for the elderly patients, those with mobility challenges, and those with chronic conditions who need constant care and monitoring. These technologies enhance convenience as patients can consult with their healthcare providers from the comfort of their homes and at any time. Again, they enhance efficiency as they reduce the waitin times and eliminate the need for travel. By reducing the waiting time and elimination the travel need, these technologies ensure that even those with chronic conditions can be monitored in an effective manner by their providers. These technologies also enhance the role of advanced registered nurses (ARNs) as they can deploy them to offer care to more patients and monitor their conditions remotely, especially those with chronic conditions like hypertension (Haleem et al., 2022). The implication is that they enhance care coordination and collaboration as providers can communicate with colleagues and patients to develop common plans of care.

Conversely, these technologies have drawbacks that include limitations since not all patients have access to them leading to a digital gap that creates disparities. These technologies may also reduce the quality of care since the providers cannot conduct physical examinations on patients. Again, they present privacy and security challenges for patient health information and data. The implication is that while telehealth and virtual care can expand access for ARNs to reach more patients, they can also increase the workload and even stress levels (Jalali et al., 2021). The lack of face-to-face interactions make it difficult to have rapport with patients. The role of advanced registered nurse is to ensure that these technologies lead to increased care coordination and collaboration by leveraging their benefits to enhance quality care and improve patient safety.
