            Statistical tests are crucial in testing the study hypothesis. There are various types of statistical tests available, selected based on the nature of the study. To determine the type of statistical tests to use, the researcher must know the type of variables that are being dealt with and whether the data meets certain assumptions (Jones et al., 2021). For my evidence-based project proposal, different types of variables are involved ranging from continuous, discrete, and categorical variables such as age, gender, and use of fall tailored interventions for patient safety. Consequently, the statistical assumption follows a normal distribution, which only applies to quantitative research (Spurlock Jr et al., 2018). As such, the statistical test that fits the types of outcome variables and predictors for my project proposal is the use of a t-test.

A t-test is preferred when comparing the means of two different groups. For my evidence-based practice project proposal, a t-test will help determine the difference between two groups based on the null and alternative hypotheses. The study’s null hypothesis assumes that fall tailored interventions for patient safety will not reduce the incidences of falls in the medical-surgical ward. The alternative hypothesis on the other hand assumes that fall tailored interventions for patient safety will reduce the incidences of falls in the medical-surgical ward. In testing this hypothesis, the t-test results will be displayed in the form of p-value, the t-value, and the degree of freedom for the test (Siedlecki & Bena, 2021). These values will communicate to the audience if the difference between the two groups, test, and control as mentioned above, are statistically significant. The test result will help confirm the alternative hypothesis which supports the expected outcome is the great effectiveness of fall tailored interventions for patient safety in reducing fall incidences in medical-surgical wards.
