Evidence-based practice (EBP) is critical to better patient care delivery and attainment of quality care outcomes. However, barriers affect the implementation of EBP in nursing. In their qualitative evidence synthesis study, McArthur et al. (2021) found that several obstacles hinder the implementation of EBP in nursing settings. These include limited organizational support, lack of and limited knowledge and training, cost and lack of resources as well as lack of teamwork within organizational framework. Additionally, using a focus group study, Pitsillidou et al. (2023) documented the nature of work, the decision-making process, and nurses’ attitudes as barriers or obstacles to implementing evidence-based practice. Resistance to change, time constraints, and insufficient staff numbers also hinder the implementation of EBP in nursing settings. Further, Alqahtani et al. (2022) observed that nurses failed to implement EBP because of organizational-related barriers, level of education, and job position. As such, all these studies demonstrate different barriers to EBP implementation in nursing settings which include organizational and personal or nurse-related barriers. NUR 590 Topic 5 DQ 1
Organizational support as one of the obstacles to EBP project will impact the selected project of hourly rounding to reduce and prevent falls as without sufficient resource allocation and agreement from the management, it will not be easy to execute the proposed intervention. Therefore, this obstacle means that the entity cannot implement the suggested intervention since the organization will not offer sufficient resources and incentives to the team. For instance, the organizational leadership may not provide nurses with sufficient time to implement the proposed intervention. For instance, if the proposed intervention needs training and resources, nurses may struggle to have the right knowledge and skills required to engage in the EBP project. This could delay the implementation of the project, leading to inconsistent outcomes.
