NUR 634 Topic 7 DQ 2 Sample

Bate’s physical examination videos have been very critical when conducting clinical assessments of different patients and guiding my clinical diagnosis. For example, I have learned the importance of dividing the abdomen into different quadrants and regions before performing a detailed abdominal examination. This helps one identify the organs in different abdominal areas during a physical exam (Yamashita et al., 2020). In addition, I have learned the importance of performing a generalized systemic, cardiovascular, and respiratory examination to evaluate different gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases. Some diseases, such as liver cirrhosis, cholelithiasis, gastric and pancreatic ulcers, and pancreatitis, also affect different organs, including the heart and the liver. I have also learned about the systematic approach to abdominal examination (DiLeo Thomas et al., 2021). This includes inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation, similar to cardiovascular and respiratory system examinations. NUR 634 Topic 7 DQ 2

I have noted that I have been very confident when performing a systematic approach to an abdominal examination. I have also noted that I usually start an abdominal examination by subdividing the abdomen into four quadrants and nine regions to help me narrow down any condition affecting any of the abdominal regions or quadrants. I can also identify signs of peritonitis when performing an abdominal examination, such as reduced abdominal movements with respiration, rigidity, tenderness, and guarding (Neupane et al., 2022). Additionally, I can recognize signs of intestinal obstruction, such as abdominal distension and loud bowel sounds during auscultation. NUR 634 Topic 7 DQ 2 I can also recognize and characterize a mass by superficial and deep palpation of the abdomen.

Despite being confident when performing an abdominal examination, I am having challenges when asked or required to ballot for different abdominal organs such as the spleen, kidney, and gall bladder (DiLeo Thomas et al., 2021). I am also having challenges recognizing hepatomegaly and splenomegaly when using palpation and percussion techniques, especially in obese people.
