NUR 674 Topic 3 DQ 1 Organizational Needs Assessment Sample
Healthcare organizations operate in different environments and have varying capacities depending on the resources and workforce. An organizational needs assessment is a critical analysis of potential areas of improvement in terms of patient experience, communication, training, and other areas (Lombardi et al., 2020). The process highlights the gaps between the current performance and the desired status. It is also instrumental in guiding nursing professionals in designing and implementing training programs, patient education initiatives, and other initiatives for better patient outcomes and overall organizational performance.
I identified various needs in the practicum setting that could be the focus of my project. NUR 674 Topic 3 DQ 1 These needs include improving patient care through increased focus on preventative education and remote services, addressing nurses’ health and well-being, improving interprofessional communication and workplace civility, and better staff orientation. Addressing these needs is instrumental to achieving high-quality care, optimal patient safety, and enhanced job satisfaction. For instance, preventive education reduces patient visits, while addressing nurses’ health and well-being needs fosters job satisfaction and resilience (Fowler et al., 2020; Henshall et al., 2020). I used surveys to determine these needs. They are a reliable tool for exploring organizational issues, barriers to care, and areas of improvement from patients, nurses, and leaders’ perspectives.
My project will focus on improving patient experience by empowering nurses to identify and respond to workplace incivility. NUR 674 Topic 3 DQ 1 Within nursing, incivility hampers job satisfaction, nurse-patient relationships, and retention. It is a leading cause of physical exhaustion and psychological distress that compromises patient safety and increases medical errors (Phan & Hampton, 2023). The empowerment program will be a mixed educational methodology for teaching nurses the various strategies for identifying and responding to bullying behaviors. The organizational leaders should also adopt the project as a policy for preparing new graduate nurses to handle workplace stress, improving peer relationships, and ensuring timely responses to bullying behaviors.
