Principles that Govern Human and Animal Behavior Essay
Principles that Govern Human and Animal Behavior Essay
Behavior can be defined as the actions or responses of a human or animal towards others. Behavior may be influenced by various factors such as demographics, life experiences, beliefs, emotions and motivation (Asbjørnsen et al., 2019). The purpose of this paper is to elaborate on the principles that influence human and animal behavior, discuss how they apply to my life and highlight how they impact interactions among individuals and groups.

Principles of Behavior
One principle that governs behavior is that behavior is a result of environmental influences (Asbjørnsen et al., 2019). Humans and animals exist and interact in various settings. Their actions are influenced and modelled by how their environment perceives them. Additionally, humans and animals adapt to their environment. Humans and animals also serve as components of their respective environments. Their emotions may cause them to act in various ways. humans and animals display different emotions that differentiate them. Motivation is both a driving and maintaining factor for behavior. Humans and animals, therefore, develop emotions and motivation based on how these are shaped by their environment. Consequently, their environment determines how they act and respond to various situations and various components of the environment.
The second principle is that behavior is reinforced by consequences. If behavior is perceived as being right and can be tolerated, it is enhanced through positive responses and can be encouraged (Badcock et al., 2019). If a behavior is deemed unacceptable, various forms of punishments or negative responses may be offered to discourage them. Positive responses may motivate to continue such behavior while negative consequences may motivate individuals to stop such behavior.
The third principle is that positive consequences provide better motivation for behavior (Badcock et al., 2019). Desired behavior is encouraged through positive responses and this increases the likelihood of such behavior being reinforced. Changes in behavior may be brought about by the environment promoting and praising certain types of behavior. The fourth principle is that the course of a certain behavior determines if they were reinforced or not (Međedović, 2018). If a specific behavior is still exhibited then this highlights that it was accepted and reinforced. Certain behavior may have been discouraged and may not be expressed with time.
Principle of Behavior Evident in my Life
The principles of behavior determine many aspects of my life. I understand that my environment may influence my behavior as it may motivate or discourage my behavior. I’m also a part of the environment and through these principles, I understand that I may influence others through my actions. I understand that there are various social norms and these can be interpreted as behavior that s acceptable by the environment. Individuals tend to model their behavior to fit into these social norms (Međedović, 2018). Over the years, I have developed and abandoned various types of behavior and this was brought about by the consequences of my environment.
How Principles of Behavior Impact interactions among Individuals and Groups.
Individuals and groups are components of the environment. Behavior that is socially seen as positive is reinforced through positive responses and individuals and other members of society encourage them (Vijayakarthik et al., 2022). However, behavior that is considered unacceptable is discouraged through negative consequences and even punishments. Members of a given group may punish irresponsible and unacceptable behavior to ensure that their core values are upheld.
Conclusion
Human and animal behavior may be determined by several factors. An important factor is the influence of the environment on behavior. Social norms are behavior that is deemed acceptable by the environment and these are encouraged to be adopted by members of any society. The principles of behavior are relevant in my life and I recognize that the environment has shaped my behavior and how I can influence the behavior of others. Individuals and members of any society tend to promote their core values by influencing behavior.
