Workplace incivility is a most common issue in various workplaces (Armstrong, 2018). I have encountered work incivility in the past and felt like working in the healthcare system would be the hardest task in my life. I had been assigned a patient, and my mentor had illustrated to me some of the clinical duties I was to perform on the patient. While in the process of administering my clinical duties, the top manager at the institution came to perform his daily routine progress. The manager did not trust me with the clinical duties and ordered me to stop the process.

I felt worthless, and this humiliation made me rethink my future career as a nurse. My mentor addressed the unethical approach with the manager later in the day. Despite the polite approach from my mentor, the manager complained about how nurses on internship give substandard services at the facility (Logan, 2017). All this time, many questions were clouding my judgment on the entire scenario. However, I understood that my stay at the facility was short-lived, and I had to meet my practicum goals. I became resilient and treated the incident as a mistake. My mentor was also instrumental in supporting my role at the institution.
This issue affected my urge to meet my goals in the practicum practice because I felt that I was being denied the platform to perfect my nursing skills. Again, the issue affected my nursing practicum negatively as I would decline some clinical duties assigned to me for fear of humiliation. The manager could have prevented this situation. He could have used polite language in addressing his concern and through the right channel (Fida et al., 2018). For instance, he could have called my mentor and explained to them why he did not want nurses on practicum to undertake some operations on patients. This style would define a better communication strategy that supports the work environment and reduces work incivility.
