In his article, Cable (2018) explores the working of humble leadership in different settings, including healthcare setting. Cable advances that servant leadership views the role of a leader as serving employees as they explore and grow and providing tangible and emotional support. The key is for leaders to help people feel purposeful, motivated and energized to bring the best from them to work. In my leadership practicum, I have experienced the tenets of leadership that include power, authority, rule, headship servant, example and humility. What is evident is that unlike other forms of leadership, I have realized that servant leaders are not keen on exercising and showing their power, authority and rule or demonstrating headship. Rather, they are humble and seek to advance the interests of their subordinates or those that they serve in different situations. My experience shows that servant leaders focus on service to other and prioritizing the needs of others and not theirs. They are keen in motivating and seeing others grow and explore to bring the best out of their potential.

Implementing the principles of servant leadership implores nurses to lead teams as servants. For instance, as patient advocates, nurses should prioritize patient needs and ensure that they have increased access to care to meet their healthcare concerns (Neville et al., 2021). Secondly, implementing these principles needs one to nurture certain values like honesty, integrity, and being people-focused in all areas of service and care provision (Best, 2020). Getting more knowledge, being part of inter-professional teams and effective collaboration ensures that one molds and models the attributes of servant leadership in nursing care. As advanced by Cable (2018), one should actively seek ideas and unique input from the employees that they serve to be effective servant leaders. Further, creating a learning culture implies that I am ready to integrate different aspects of care provision to improve patient outcomes.
