Reliability and Validity of Research Methodology Discussion Question

The study used a randomized controlled design, and participants were randomly assigned to either the yoga or control group. The yoga group attended eight weekly sessions and practiced at home for 20 minutes per day. The control group did not participate in any type of activity. At the end of the study, the yoga group showed significant improvements on all measures compared to the control group (Zaccari et al., 2020). In particular, they showed improvements in cognitive functioning, self-compassion, anxiety symptoms, and depression symptoms.

Simple random sampling technique was applied in the study to identify potential study participants. The participants were randomly assigned to either the yoga or control group during the study process. In particular, salivating sampling method was applied to collect saliva samples from the randomly selected respondents. Salivary sampling is a convenient and non-invasive method for measuring cortisol levels, and can be used to track the effects of interventions over time. A simple random sample is a type of probability sampling technique where every unit in the population has an equal chance of being selected. This type of sampling is achieved by using a random number generator to select the units at random.

One of the strengths of simple random sampling is that it is the most basic, and therefore simplest, type of probability sampling. Also, it is easy to understand and to carry out and always produces a representative sample if done correctly (Queirós et al., 2017). On the other hand, simple random sampling technique can be vulnerable to bias if not implemented correctly; besides, it is less efficient than some other types of sampling techniques. The simple random sampling method applied in the study promoted reliable and valid results. The method proved quite reliable and produced valid results. The sampling method provided every member of the population with an equal chance of being selected, which ensured that the sample is representative of the population as a whole (Queirós et al., 2017). Additionally, simple random sampling was relatively easy to implement and did not require a lot of prior knowledge about the population, which makes it less susceptible to bias.

For this assignment, read the article by Zaccari, Callahan, Storzback, & McFarlane (2020), listed in the resource section for this week.
By Day 3
Prepare at least a 350-word post discussing the strengths and weaknesses of the sampling method used in this study and if the sampling method promoted reliable and valid results. Include in the discussion if there is anything the researcher could have done to improve the sampling process.

Note: Post a three paragraph (at least 350 words) response directly in the response text box rather than as an attachment. Be sure to use evidence, in-text citations, and essay-level writing skills, including the use of transitional material and organizational frames. Use the writing resources to develop your post.
