Introduction

Nurses are the bedrock of the healthcare system. They labor tirelessly to advocate and care for their patients, frequently spending more time with them than the physicians. Although there is an increasing demand for nurses, finding a job in the nursing field is difficult, especially if you are just starting. Writing a decent resume attracts employers who will want to hire you right away, not to forget a nursing cover letter that describes your accomplishments. Because my nursing resume is the initial point of contact between my employer and me, I desire to create an excellent first impression. One of the simplest methods to accomplish this is to include my licenses in my title. This shows the employer that I am capable of performing my duties. Optional licenses, which is another method for me to display my skills. One’s CV should be tailored to the nursing job description. This should include the keywords mentioned by the employer as well as the obligations required of me.

Patient Care Skills

Empathy is a patient care skill that I employed as a nurse aide.  It is critical in health care to be able to empathize with patients and understand the miserable situations that others are in. Empathy is frequently regarded as a vital component of good therapeutic sessions and patient care skills (Greiner & Knebel, 2022). Communication Skills are essential in all settings, but it is especially crucial for healthcare employees. As a registered nurse, I often employed communication skills to my patients, drug administration, and explaining procedures to patients. In addition to ordinary communication with coworkers, healthcare personnel must talk with patients and their families. According to Greiner and Knebel (2022), there are robust favorable connections between a healthcare team’s communication skills and a patient’s ability to follow medical regimens, self-manage a debilitating clinical condition, and adopt precautionary health behaviors.

The attitude of positivity is one of the skills that I learned in patient care skill. A good mental attitude benefits all employees but is especially important in healthcare. Because of the rigors of the job, the stress of cooperation, and the frequent contact with patients, healthcare personnel must have a positive attitude. The harsh reality of health care may quickly wear someone down, leading to stress and other undesirable outcomes (Brasaitė et al., 2018). Flexibility is an important skill that I learned as a registered nurse. Because nurses do not follow the standard 9-to-5 schedule, flexibility is essential when working as a team (Brasaitė et al., 2018). Your colleagues may require you to take up a shift or remain late. A difficult patient often consumed more of my time than I anticipated. Aside from coping with my schedule, I must also adapt to new, diverse, or changing circumstances. Every day in the healthcare profession, something new is encountered. To prevent burnout and suffering at work, I had to learn how to break a habit and adjust quickly.

Challenges faced during the employment of patient care skills as a nurse aide and registered nurse are insufficient resources and poor time management from colleagues. This ends up in insufficient patient care, like late drug administration and patients missing out on critical procedures due to a lack of an instrument to perform the procedure. At the same time, my most significant achievement in patient care skills is confidence. Because healthcare professions are patient-facing, I must convey confidence in my performance. According to Brasait et al. (2018), confidence is one of the most powerful elements influencing performance. Furthermore, according to the study by  Brasait et al. (2018), confidence resulted in better ratings on post-treatment patient assessments. Confidence in my skill set speaks directly with patients and influences their experience.

My patient care skills are advantageous to the position I am applying for as a senior medical surgical nurse because I can listen, understand, and clarify in concrete language to patients and their caregivers, provide efficient and personalized care to patients, and use a clear conversation with team members and interdisciplinary team to foster significant organizational collaboration. An example of how I used my patient care skills is by monitoring vital signs in post-operative patients and noting any deviation from the norm and action upon it.

Leadership

Leadership is essential in the nursing profession. Great leaders combine excellent organizational management with motivation, communication, vision, and direction (Campos et al., 2020). These characteristics are extremely significant in the nursing profession. The ever-increasing demand to enhance the level of care provided in our healthcare systems necessitates competent nursing leadership. Nursing leadership is a valuable tool for enhancing individual patient care and the healthcare system as a whole. With previous experience as a unit in charge, I learned various leadership skills; I employed and strengthened what I learned in school as a daily practice management nurse.

As a unit in charge, I relied on my decision-making skills. Nurse leaders are continuously confronted with significant and little decisions, ranging from defining procedures for the nursing staff to maintaining records. Residents and other younger nurses looked up to me as the unit in charge of day-to-day decision-making and guidance. My ability to make efficient, concise, and successful decisions resulted in a more structured and direction-driven ward. Another skill I employed as a leader was conflict resolution. Conflict is inherent in every workplace, including health care. Conflict resolution, an important nursing leadership ability, enables nurses to settle difficulties and promote cooperation, productivity, and patient satisfaction (Campos et al., 2020).  An example of how I employ conflict resolution as a nurse leader is by discussing with members of the healthcare team on opposing viewpoints in formulating treatment plans and diagnoses for patients. As a nurse leader, I must be well-versed in communication skills to achieve maximum performance. Teamwork among individuals of all levels and positions in the healthcare industry is encouraged via effective communication. The communication process is precise and requires active listening and feedback.

Skills I learned as a leader is adaptability. Adaptability, a vital leadership skill in nursing, comprises the ability to grow and adjust to the ever-changing healthcare profession (Campos et al., 2020). As a nurse leader, I frequently confronted uncertainty in both my everyday work and the fast-changing medical context. Leaders must also explain these shifts to their followers effectively. Another skill I learned as a leader is a commitment to educational and professional development, whereby continuing professional development is a critical ability for nurse leaders to keep throughout their careers (Moodie, 2019). These enabled me to keep my skill set current and predict any changes or difficulties that could arise. For my professional growth, I pursued a post-graduate degree in leadership, management, and medical-surgical nursing. As a leader, I frequently organize continuing education in the form of certificates, credentials, and CMEs to improve particular skills and general practices for myself and my followers.

Accomplishments as a nurse leader I achieved that I was accountable for making choices and positively influencing positive changes in the healthcare world. I also developed relational and motivational tactics to guide training nurses. I fostered an environment of continuous learning and growth within the healthcare system via the coaching of other nurses. I also set an excellent example for the new nurses, who may one day be nurse leaders too. The major challenges I faced were a lack of cooperation from other nurses and limited resources. My leadership abilities are important for the position for which I am applying because the experience I have is crucial for reinforcing the incorporation of safe, productive, and high-quality care, which fosters a favorable work surrounding and fosters positive patient outcomes and insights for both patients and staff (Moodie, 2019).
