Week 2: Moral and Ethical Leadership Essay

It has taken me the bravery to speak up and face challenging situations as a future nurse leader. Active communication is one tactic I have used. Having an honest conversation while dealing with a problematic situation is crucial. By talking to others concerned, one can confidently voice their concerns or views while acknowledging the validity of their points of view (Bullington et al., 2019). Another strategy I have used is extensive investigation and data collection.

A firm grasp of the relevant facts, policies, and ethical issues is essential before taking on a challenging scenario (Dennis, 2022). Because of this, I can tackle the problem head-on, knowing all the facts and having enough evidence to back up my claims. In addition, I have learned a lot from seeking mentorship from seasoned nurses and other healthcare professionals; these people have lived through similar situations and can share helpful thoughts and advice. I can see the whole picture better and make educated choices after talking to them.

Regarding how my moral and ethical beliefs shaped how I responded to challenging circumstances, I have always placed a high value on advocating for patients and improving their quality of life. When making decisions, my moral compass tells me to put my patients’ needs first. A deep sense of duty compels me to fight for my patients’ rights and provide them with the best possible treatment when it gets tough.

The four principles of ethics that I try to live by are beneficence, nonmaleficence, autonomy, and justice. With these principles in mind, I can better weigh the results of my actions and the consequences of my choices. When making decisions, I try to balance everyone’s rights and responsibilities and the patient’s needs. The importance of confidentiality and individual privacy directly relates to my moral and ethical convictions. To maintain confidence and encourage the free flow of information, one should always uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, even in the most challenging circumstances (Varkey, 2020).

As a nurse leader, I have developed the confidence to speak up and address challenging situations by using a combination of open communication, meticulous research, consulting with trusted advisors, and adhering to the highest moral and ethical standards at all times. Using these techniques, I can better represent my patients’ interests, make educated decisions, and aid in providing ethically proper care.
