Week 8 Discussion

Throughout this course, I have gained immense knowledge of advanced practice nursing (APN) roles, person-centered care (PCC), and systems theory and practice issues. One of the important things I learned is that APNs have a crucial role in promoting the best possible health outcomes for the patient populations and communities they serve (Heinen et al., 2019). Secondly, I learned that providing PCC involves evaluating a patient’s abilities and potential to manage and improve their health instead of viewing the patient as a recipient of passive treatment. Therefore, providers should seek to develop patient treatment plans based on the health needs of an individual patient (Santana et al., 2018). Thirdly, I learned that healthcare ethical issues create dilemmas challenging nursing practice globally. The ethical issues occur when providing direct patient care causing ethical dilemmas, which APNs need to find solutions in their practice.

The information learned in the course will be applied in my future APN practice to deliver high-quality care and address common issues. For instance, I will make use of care interventions such as evidence-based treatment interventions and interprofessional collaboration to better patient health outcomes. I will apply knowledge on person-centered care to collaboratively set patient care goals and interventions with patients to meet their health needs (Santana et al., 2018). Furthermore, I will apply knowledge on ethical issues to create an ethical framework that will guide me in scenarios requiring complex ethical decision-making.

Steps that will promote success in the master’s program will include establishing positive relationships with my professors and supervisor. In addition, I will join an MSN student organization to get support and access resources that will foster my success. Lastly, I will be attending scientific nursing conferences since they will expose me to new APN practice interventions and build my professional connections.
