Theories, models, and frameworks are often used interchangeably in project implementation science, yet they are fundamentally distinct concepts (Speroni et al., 2020). The theory implies predictive capacity and efforts to explain implementation’s causal mechanism. Models are used to illustrate or direct the process of converting research into practice while frameworks indicate factors believed to influence implementation outcomes. The project at hand focuses on patient fall prevention. Therefore, theories, models, and frameworks can play a crucial role in the implementation of this project.
The relevant theories for the implementation of this project include psychological behavior change theories including the Social Cognitive Theory, the Theory of Reasoned Action, and the Theory of Planned Behavior. These theories have been extensively used in project implementation science to investigate the determinants of change in clinical behavior (Nilsen, 2020).
The models that are useful in this project include process models such as the Knowledge Model of Knowledge Translation, Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), research-to-practice or knowledge-to-action, and planned action models (Nilsen, 2020). These models are essential in describing and directing the process of converting research into practice. They outline various stages of the process of translating research into practice from discovery to implementation in distinct settings (Nilsen, 2020). Other important models include Academic Center for Evidence-Based Practice (ACE), the Iowa Model, the Knowledge-to-Action Framework, and the Ottawa Model.

The frameworks that are critical in this project are determinant frameworks such as Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR), Active Implementation Frameworks, and the Understanding-User-Context Framework (Nilsen, 2020). These frameworks acknowledge that project implementation involves a multidimensional occurrence, with various interacting influences. They are based on literature reviews and the experiences of the originators.
Leadership approaches can be leveraged to promote the implementation of evidence-based practice projects. Critical and effective leadership approaches to the implementation of patient fall prevention are those that use the ideas of transactional and transformational leadership styles (Cheng et al., 2018). Leadership strategies characterize orientations such as being supportive to help stakeholders during the process of adopting new practices, being upbeat to respond to the implementation requirements, perseverant to deal with continuing impediments that are likely to prevent implementation endeavors, and being informed to appropriately guide the process of implementation.
