Factors Influencing the Development of Psychopathology Essay

Psychopathologists examine disordered neurological patterns, etiologies, indicators, classifications, and therapies. Among these illnesses is psychopathy, a neuropsychiatric condition characterized by impaired emotional reactions, callousness, and poor behavioral command, which frequently results in prolonged antisocial and aggressive conduct. This study aims to analyze the physiological, biological, social, and relational factors that contribute to the development of psychopathy.

Biological Factors

Neurological and genetic features play a significant role in developing psychopathology. According to Shadrina et al. (2018), the most common mental diseases are depressive disorders (DDs). For instance, major depressive disorder (MDD), the most common cause of disability, affects one out of every five persons worldwide. There is high clinical and genetic comorbidity between schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (BPD), two severe mental illnesses (Yu et al., 2019). It is common for these disorders to have several genetic vulnerabilities, which indicates their involvement in a wide range of biological functions.

Psychological Factors

Cognitive development is critical for recognizing and evaluating psychological abnormalities. When an individual does not comprehend or conduct appropriately, it is vital to ascertain the intended outcome. Children’s and adolescent psychopathology may be more complex and maybe more changeable than adults’ (Butcher & Kendall, 2018). Children might encounter cognitive, behavioral, psychological, and other developmental issues during their transition to adolescents, raising the risk of developing mental health disorders.

Social, Cultural, and Interpersonal Factors

While mental diseases have specific universal characteristics, societal significance systems dictate psychopathology. Psychological evaluation is a critical component of the psychopathology diagnosis process. Mental illness is impacted and frequently aggravated by an individual’s sociocultural connections or absence. According to Cheung and Mak (2018), while mental health illnesses have explicit universal characteristics, how one individual arrives at that point is highly dependent on their sociological variances. Across most cultures, mental illness is seen as a vulnerability rather than a sickness, and as a result, intervention is frequently withheld.

Conclusion

As the DSM-5 recognizes, mental disorders may affect persons of all colors, nations, and ethnicities (Allely & Allely, 2020). Individuals are predisposed to mental illness symptoms due to a mix of genetic predispositions social and environmental life experiences that activate inherited or acquired vulnerabilities to display signs of psychological disorder. Psychopathy can be reduced by raising awareness of its symptoms and advocating for early diagnosis and treatment.

In many realms of medicine, objective diagnoses can be made: A clavicula is broken. An infection is present. TSH levels meet the diagnostic criteria for hypothyroidism. Psychiatry, on the other hand, deals with psychological phenomena and behaviors. Can these, too, be “defined objectively and by scientific criteria (Gergen, 1985), or are they social constructions?” (Sadock et al., 2015).
Thanks to myriad advances during recent decades, we know that psychopathology is caused by many interacting factors. Theoretical and clinical contributions to the field have come from the neural sciences, genetics, psychology, and social-cultural sciences. How do these factors impact the expression, classification, diagnosis, and prevalence of psychopathology, and why might it be important for a nurse practitioner to take a multidimensional, integrative approach?
To Prepare:
Review this week’s Learning Resources, considering the many interacting factors that contribute to the development of psychopathology.
Consider how theoretical perspective on psychopathology impacts the work of the PMHNP.
Explain the biological (genetic and neuroscientific); psychological (behavioral and cognitive processes, emotional, developmental); and social, cultural, and interpersonal factors that influence the development of psychopathology.
