APA Nursing Theory Assignment Paper
APA Nursing Theory Assignment Paper
Nursing students use nursing theories not just in their research work but also in clinical and practice settings. Nursing theories comprise concepts, hypotheses, propositions, and frameworks as well as perspectives to inform the type of interventions that one needs in providing patient care. These theories arise through the use of deductive and inductive reasoning among the theorists. The adoption and use of any nursing theory implore one to analyze the prevailing medical context as evidenced by situation, context, and requirements (Younas & Quennell, 2019). Further, the presentation of research findings and scholarly papers as well as assignments requires one to use appropriate referencing styles like the American Psychological Association (APA) writing style. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the essence of using nursing theory in patient care and its significance in current practice, especially in planning and provision of care. In its last part, the paper discusses a theory that best reflects my personal view of importance of nursing.

Purpose of Applying Nursing Theory in Patient Care
The application of nursing theories is at the core of nursing care for patients. Theory-based practice allows nurses to improve the quality of nursing care since theories enable nurses to articulate what they can do for patients and why they do it. Younas and Quennell (2019) conducted an integrative review to assess the usefulness of nursing theory to patient care. The findings from this study supports the role of nursing theory to patient care. Theories enable nurses to offer care that is practical and aimed at improving overall outcomes. The application of nursing theory equips nurses with information and best approaches to care situations. Theories enable nurses to establish certain logics and intellectual addendum concerning patient care and to critically reflect the current patient’s condition so that they can make sound decisions in their best interests in treatment provision.
Nursing theories offer the foundational knowledge which allows nurses to care for their patients and guide their actions. Irrespective of a patient’s situation and a nurse’s specialization, theories are in place to establish critical and baseline guidelines for both broad or general approach as well as specific nursing practices to attain best patient care in all situations (Gunawan et al., 2022). The implication is that nursing theories help shape the parameters of patient care delivery for nurses in different practice settings.
Meaningful of Nursing Theory to Current Practice
The need for nurses to excel in their current practice is founded on effective application of nursing theories. Gathering and analyzing nursing theories means that nurses can attain values and understand their critical nursing goals to direct not just their practice but also their development. The nursing theory is essential in establishing care settings, the kind of values that a nurse must have and how their interactions with patients and other professionals in the workplace (Alejandro, 2018). Nursing theories are interlinked and inextricably intertwined in the nursing practice, irrespective of the nursing situation or context. The application of these theories ensures that nurses understand the kind of practice environment they need and certain factors that impact overall care provision for patients. Through the comprehension of the intersection of nursing, patients, health and the environment, these theories focus on simplification of the complex, ever-changing interactions and relationships between nurses, their patients, the healthcare system and the profession in care delivery.
Application of a Nursing Theory
Nursing theories focus on giving guidelines on the type of care decisions that a provider can make to attain desired outcomes. Nurses use these guidelines before planning and providing care to ensure that they incorporate the best practices and make relevant decisions when interacting with their patients. The use of nursing theory before planning and providing care is essential based on the nursing metaparadigm that include person, the environment, health and nursing. In the current practice, a nurse can apply a theory to understand these paradigms so that they plan quality care interventions. Nursing theories contain components that are critical to any practice environment (Alejandro, 2018). These include the phenomenon, concepts and definitions, assumptions and relational statements. Therefore, it is vital for providers to integrate all these aspects based on their practice environment to deliver quality care to patients (Younas & Quennell, 2019). There are different types of nursing theories; right from grand nursing theories to middle-range and practice-level theories. For instance, practice-level theories in nursing are essential in any practice as they focus on concepts about a defined patient population at a certain period. These theories tend to have direct effects on patients compared to middle-range and grand nursing theories. The implication is that nursing theories are fundamental to overall delivery of quality care in any practice environment.
Theory Best Reflects my Personal View of Nursing
My personal view of nursing is that nurses are called to serve and offer best interventions to preserve human dignity, respect and mitigate suffering from disease conditions. Theories allows us to plan for and provide quality care to our patients. The Jean Watson’s Theory of Human Caring reflects best my personal view about the essence of nursing. According to Watson, nursing should promote health, prevent illnesses, care for the sick and restore health. The theory is concerned with how nurses offer care to their patients through development of better plans for health promotion and wellness (Gunawan et al., 2022). This theory is helpful in planning and providing care to my patients as it implores me to focus on the process and ensuring that all efforts aim at promoting better outcomes.
Conclusion
Nursing theories are essential and demonstrate how nurses can offer better care to patients in different situations. These theories allow for the development of interventions to promote health as opposed to medical cure. As such, the application of theories is a fundamental part of the nursing practice for all nurses because they offer a foundation to implement different interventions to attain better patient care.
