Assignment: NSGCB 498 Reflection 1 Sample

The ethical, legal, and regulatory components in nursing practice have been established to improve nursing practice and ensure that nurse practitioners abide by the practice standards while offering patient care services to patients (Chinn et al.,2021). As such, it is important for nurse practitioners to have adequate knowledge and understanding of the ethical, legal, and regulatory components to ensure that they offer ethically acceptable care while operating within the confines of legal and regulatory components of practice. In addition, abiding by these components ensure that nurse practitioners are able to avoid any litigations and ensure that patients are satisfied with the services being offered. Therefore, the purpose of this discussion is to reflect on the analysis of the ethical, legal, and regulatory components of nursing practice and discuss various sources of data for the project and how the data will be analyzed.

The ethical aspects of nursing practice revolve around four major principles, including nonmaleficence, justice, beneficence, and autonomy. Autonomy entails the right to self-determination. Therefore, there is a need to respect patient choices without influencing them. Beneficence entails the promotion of good, implying that nurse practitioners have to ensure that any kind of action undertaken means good to the patient. Nonmaleficence entails avoiding any harm or minimizing harm, while justice entails equal distribution of benefits or fairness (Johnson, 2022). The main legal components of nursing practice include mandatory reporting, patient confidentiality, defamation, malpractice, and negligence. Therefore, as part of the analysis, it was noted that nurse practitioners should also practice within the legal confines to avoid possible court cases. In addition, the regulatory components entail what is required by the nursing and professional bodies regarding what nurse practitioners practice effectively and appropriately.

It is important to plan for the project in time. Such projects should also be formulated so that they can abide by ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements. As part of such aspects, it is also important to explore the potential data source for the project. As such, the potential biggest source of data for the project will be primary data obtained from patients as the research subjects. The project will directly deal with patients since patient data will have to be collected. For example, there will be a need to collect demographic data as part of the initial patient data (Sharma, 2022). Confidential data will also be collected; as such, there will be a need to protect such data and information from unauthorized access. In addition, there will be a need to use data collection methods to get the patient data needed.

Data analysis forms a critical part of the research process. Therefore, it is important to formulate a data analysis plan depending on the nature of the data to be collected during the research effort. As part of the plan, I will embark on data analysis using readily available statistical software for data analysis. For example, SPSS has widely been used since it has various functions which are needed for data analysis. Therefore, after collecting the research data needed to help fulfill or achieve the project goals, the data will then be analyzed using SPSS to ensure that appropriate output is achieved (Sharma, 2022). In addition, I may need to seek the help of a certified statistician for appropriate training and help to ensure that I correctly analyze the data.

Conclusion

The legal, ethical, and regulatory components of nursing practice play an important role in practice. Therefore, this reflection has focused on these components. In addition, other aspects, such as the main source of data for the project, have been explored. The data collected as part of the project will be analyzed using SPSS.
