Development of Evidence-Based Practice Change Proposal II Paper
Development of Evidence-Based Practice Change Proposal II Paper
Using evidence-based practice (EBP) is currently considered the ideal standard of nursing practice. The implementation of EBP is crucial but there is no standard method of implementing EBP. The utilization of evidence may be influenced by various factors in the healthcare system. As such, nurses need to understand these factors before the implementation and application of evidence (Ginter et al., 2018). The purpose of this paper is to illustrate why understanding the healthcare system at the local level is important to consider when planning an EBP implementation. The paper will also highlight some considerations that will be taken in this change project.

Understanding of healthcare system at the local level is critical when planning an EBP implementation for different reasons. The first reason is to establish the specific needs of the hospital and the community. Acknowledging the local needs of the community and the hospital is crucial for healthcare providers to determine areas that require a change in practice (Smith et al., 2020). For example, in a hospital where readmission rates are high, it is imperative to implement EBP to address the issue of high hospital readmission rates and minimize healthcare costs. Secondly, EBP implementation depends on numerous resources including human resources and financial resources from the local level (Ginter et al., 2018). The implementation of EBP requires expert human resources to provide leadership and requisite competence. As such, it is imperative to have a deep knowledge of existing human resources at the local level. The human resources needed in the implementation of this change project may include the management and healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, and other clinicians who play a vital role in the EBP implementation at the local level.
The other reason for understanding the healthcare system at the local level when planning an EBP implementation is because the healthcare system’s organizational structure at the local level plays an instrumental role in the successful implementation of EBP. The readiness of organization management or leadership to implement EBP is essential in facilitating the availability of other crucial resources such as training opportunities, finances, and sufficient human resources (Uzarski & Broome, 2019). As such, it is critical to understand the healthcare system leadership at the local level to establish its readiness to implement the EBP. Another reason for understanding the healthcare system at the local level is to understand the existing cultures at the local level to promote planning for EBP implementation. Some of the critical aspects of culture include organizational models such as existing human resource management policies and the cultures of the local communities that surround the healthcare system. Cultural factors are crucial in influencing successful EBP implementation by influencing the collaboration of the key stakeholders in the implementation process.
There are various considerations that I am likely to make in my change project. They include engaging the local agencies and communities in the change project. The involvement of the local community in the EBP project is crucial in fostering its successful implementation. This can be achieved by seeking the goodwill of the local communities and agencies, which is important in advancing collaboration between clinicians and other key stakeholders who are critical in the successful implementation of the change project (Schlechter et al., 2021). The other consideration is compliance with the existing rules and regulations. It is imperative to ensure that the change project does not contravene the existing laws, particularly laws regulating safety and health and also cultural beliefs and traditions.
